Koh Kred, Bangkok

3.9
#11 of 37 in Parks in Bangkok
Just a short journey from the capital city you'll find an entirely different setting on Koh Kred, a manmade island in the Chao Phraya River. Popular for its earthenware pottery, the island features numerous kilns and pottery shops as its main attraction. Besides picking up a souvenir here, you can also tour a large number of temples including Wat Porami, a royal temple, near the main ferry docks. Check out the small museum inside the grounds with historical items including art made by Colonel Chatwat Ngamniyom. With our international travel planner, Bangkok attractions like Koh Kred can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Koh Kret is a small island on the Chao Praya River. Every weekend there is a yard sale not to be missed. To get there you can take the boat traveling from Sapang Taksin and the river for almost an hour and then when you get off at the stop which is located on the opposite side of the River, you have to take the ferry from shore to shore, Ditto for the return. Or you can get there with the bts or metro to Mo Chit and then take a taxi. Or take a taxi, even though the latter is longer and less beautiful, the most recommendable is the boat trip. You arrive on the island you are walking the path virtually one-way between market and temples and restaurants. It's not touristy because off the routes of mass. The time it takes and almost a day, but it's very good, especially for anyone who has been to Bangkok several times and want to see something new

  • We went there on week day as we knew that it won't have many shop open but it even less shop open than we thought. Personally recommended should go there on weekend as every shop will open and have more variety for selection. But if you like to see just daily life living of villagers then visit on week day cuz it wasn't crowded at all!! Good exercise for bicycling riding though. However, the ferry is very chill and relax with very cheap price in the world just only 2 baht for going to the island and another 2 baht for returning from the island!! Total 4 baht. Very cheap!! Recommended!!
  • Koh Kret is an island 20 km north of Bangkok, which is located in Chao Phraya and is great for a day trip. You can take a bus (number 155 or 505) from the Victory Monument or the shopping mall Central World to Pak Kret or the green flag Chao Phraya Express boat. Both are very cheap options. From Pak Kret Station it is only a few meters to the ferry terminal where the ferry will take you to the island for 5 Baht. The island with temples and lots of food stalls you can super around in 2-3 hours on foot. When I was there Chao Phraya had flooded half of the island, which did not prevent me from circumnavigating it. The island itself is known as a place where Mon people stayed and for its pottery. A nice day trip from the city of angels.
  • Not much open on a week day, but people are nice, souvenirs cute and it makes for a closeby countryside retreat.
  • Nice island to walk around. You will need more time than you think. Prepared to spend at least 2 to 3 hours in the island.
  • Kohkred is located in Nonthaburi province, Thailand. There are a lot of food, antique places and architecture. If you want to try Thai food, kohkred is another place that provides many delicious Thai dishes.
