Klongs, Bangkok

(3.8/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
Take a tour of Bangkok's Klongs--the canals and waterways that crisscross the Thai capital--in a private long-tail boat. Admire the buildings which teeter on the edge of the banks, catch a glimpse of locals going about their daily lives, grab a cold beer or some refreshing fruit from a passing boat vendor, and spot the birds, fish, and other wildlife that thrive even in the heart of the city. In addition to being one of the best ways for sightseers to explore Bangkok, the klongs provide some of the quickest public transport here, avoiding the congestion that plagues the city's roads. Make Klongs a part of your Bangkok vacation plans using our Bangkok trip generator.

  • We took a long-tail boat to run the course in Thonburi. Looks like everything... beauty and pollution come together very closely. We have a better idea of the "popular" life Bangkok, away from the big hotels and crowded neighborhoods. There are voracious fish, "crocodiles" which are in fact of the lizards, temples. We regret not having bought a beer or a Coke to the ladies who come offer us boat... we feel although it is sort of a "door" to tourists (it is far from the traditional and picturesque floating markets), but at the same time, it is clear that life is not easy here... We were fortunate to have a very boatman smiling and who did what he could to show us as much as possible (animals, temples, houses, etc.)

  • any Bangkok visit among a ride through the Klongs, and the Chao Phraya River for me again and again. In any case, the diverse impressions, the pace at the interim stage and the cooler air over the water are the experience here. It pays directly to the boat to book--not even in the hotel or at the airport.

  • You do not have when buying a boat ride in the klongs we were trapped by a tuk tuk driver and we paid 1800 bats (after negotiation!) for a ride without any interest of an hour! The rough guide advised to visit the klongs in boat for an equivalent amount. We have therefore accepted the visit but we have bitterly regretted! If you want to visit the klongs by boat to see the houses that border the river take the boat from the town. It is not necessarily easy to find, but you will pay only 11 bats per person! And sincerely what you will see will be just as interesting (so to speak...) than you will see the private boat tour! Regarding the klongs as such I can't find it especially interesting to see... the water is dirty, and you see only the lives of people who live along the River in houses of fortune...
