King Rama IX Park, Bangkok

4.6
#8 of 37 in Parks in Bangkok
Explore the largest green space in the capital city at King Rama IX Park, a site built in 1987 for King Bhumibol's 60th birthday. This park boasts an international botanical garden and a large lake where you can take paddle boats onto the water. Also visit the gold-topped building housing photos, paintings, and information about the King. If you arrive early, join in the public morning aerobics or Tai-Chi classes. When you get hungry, head toward the entrances of the park, where small stands usually sell barbecued chicken, noodles, and fruit. • Bangkok's biggest public park. It is home to over a million flowers. There are places to exercise and jog galore. The best time to visit is in the cooler months between November and January when the flowers are in bloom. You can rent swans and take a trip around the lake. (No swans were harmed. The swans are actually boats in the shape of swans. All swans have long since emigrated from Bangkok for a better life elsewhere.) We were charged 35 baht per person when entering the car park. Lots of events on during the year. A good distance from the centre of Bangkok. I picked up free tree saplings from in front of the exhibition hall. Open from 5am to 7pm daily including national holidays.
  • What a great park, the biggest in Bangkok, built as a tribute to Thailand's greatest King, Bhumipol (Rama 9). The significance of this place is not necessarily the size, but the fact that it was built as a testament to all of the previous Kings accomplishments. If you are astute you will see statues and physical displays throughout the park which inscribe some of the previous Kings accomplishments, he is by all accounts the father of modern day Thailand. This park is literally huge and you can spend all day here. Foliage and vegetation seems to change like thematic areas as you walk through. There are a ton of amenities in this park as well, but as a tourist you can really appreciate the care and dedication of the Thai people who make this gigantic park look as good as it does every day. It's a Bangkok gem.
  • Large Garden , Nice Place to Relax with Friend & Family. Take some Activity ; Walk , Run , Aerobic ... Eastern Bangkok is Comfortable. Be SMART & HEALTHY.
  • I have been jogging at this park since mid 2018. This is the biggest park in Bangkok where you can find many activities to join: jogging, running, swan boat riding, picnicking etc. one round distance is around 6-7 km depends on the route. The limitation is only the transport to reach this park is only by car til the sky monorail system finish in around 2 more years.
  • This is a fresh breath of green in the midst of Bangkok outskirts. It's a huge park and very well maintained and lots of greens. They have amazing running tracks and various activities. Sitting around the lake with a book when tired of your run is something will happen naturally. Check out the event list on weekend, lots of fun happening at that time.
