  • Really good prices in groceries, fruit, etc .. compared to the rest of the city. It’s worth the trip if you live in BKK to buy your weekly stuff but not if you are only for a couple of days - very sma...  more »

  • This fresh food market offers a vast array of Thailand's diverse agricultural products. The freshness of the products is virtually guaranteed by the thriving competition of the vendors. Anyone interested in cooking or the variety of Thai fruit, vegetables, meat and fish plus local dishes will be delighted by the visual feast of food items on offer. The market is not on the standard tourist itinerary, but visitors will be rewarded with authentic first hand knowledge of Thai culture. The market itself is located near the Bangkok port but easily accessible from Rama 4 Rd by bus or by a short taxi ride from the main tourist area at Sukhumvit Rd. Highly recommended to anyone curious to delve deeper into Thai culture.
  • A breathtaking (not because of the smell) market to visit, in suburban Thailand. Full of the freshest meat, veggies and fruits all around. Want a chicken? They'll take a live one and kill it for you. It is HUGE so don't get lost! There are different sections too, the meat, live animals and others. There is also an indoor market and an outdoor one, do try to visit both. It can get very congested in the morning so try to arrive nearer to lunchtime.
  • It is an experience to be in this market. Cramped, but very very large.... makes me wonder how anyone chooses which stall to buy their stuff. Also, does not seem to have much order to things... except for the stalls selling chicken and geese are placed in one corner. Everything else seems generally mixed up. The stuff on sale seem reasonably cheap though.
  • Wide range of fruits and vegetables. Fantastic dried chilies. Also meat and seafood. Very clean and most places are open well into the night. However, we have not found any good stalls to eat prepared products (around 10 in the evening). You can either buy good stuff or eat something very simple.
  • Authentic Thai traditional market. This is a real market where people buy food and stocks for the week. Opens daily. Live animals, vegetables and fruits, raw meat, fish, you name it! It has really strong odors due to the condition of the animals (smalls cages) It should be included and recommended in the guides.

Where to stay in Bangkok

As a commercial, cultural, and tourist center, Bangkok offers a great diversity of accommodations. For long established and chain hotels, try Sukhumvit Road and the areas surrounding the central Siam Square, where budget and luxury rooms are available in abundance. If you are looking for the backpacker zone, head to Khaosan Road, where you'll find a wealth of inexpensive, simple accommodations surrounded by businesses tailored to traveler's needs. Consider staying at a guesthouse to gain a deeper understanding of Thai life.
