Wat Panan Choeng, Ayutthaya

4.5
Part of Ayutthaya Historical Park, Wat Panan Choeng represents a Buddhist temple built in the 12th century and features a large, gold, seated Buddha. This particular Buddha image is very important for Thais and Thai-Chinese, who considered it the guardian of mariners. Zheng He, a Chinese Muslim admiral, famously visited this attraction in the 15th century and offered gifts to the temple. Remember to dress respectfully and wear long pants and sleeves. • The attraction of this temple is the seated Buddha. The truth is impressive. It is immense. And inside you can see people as it does their prayers and take their offerings. It is worth visiting it

  • This is a beautiful, but not crushed with people, shrine. Be sure that you go to the smaller shrine to the side. There is a much older stone Buddha that is stunning.  more »
  • This has been one of the more impressive buddha/temples we've visited to date. The size is intimidating and once you survive the crush of people taking photos in the doorway, go inside to take it all ...  more »

  • The tour of the temples and pagoda started off with this temple. This temple is peacefully set and located along a river. The amazing Buddha image that is the highlight of the temple does not disappoint. It is said the Buddha seems to keep looking at you as you walk towards the Buddha, and it does seem true - for me at least. They were wrapping cloth around the shoulder of the huge Buddha like a form of monks’ robes. For those keen on feeding fishes and doing good deeds, you can walk on by down the river.
  • It is a Buddhist temple, which has an enormous Buddha statue inside the temple. Nice place to visit. It is very popular for local thai to come and pray. It is very crowded, I believed thousand visitors come to this temple each day.
  • Is very good temple, wat yai chaimongkol
  • The enormous Buddha barely fits within the Wat making it incredibly impressive. It's worth a stop on your trip around Ayutthaya
  • This temple and monastery left me speechless. It was incredibly peaceful yet you could sense the activity going on all around. The giant Buddha image is worth seeing, as are all of the ante-chambers off the main temple, which are colourful and richly decorated. I'm not sure why but there was something very special about this place.
