Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ayutthaya

(4.6/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Discover Thailand's rich and compelling history at Ayutthaya Historical Park, a settlement founded in 1350. The second Siamese capital, it was ransacked by the Burmese in the 18th century, yet its ruins still offer a fascinating glimpse into Asian architecture of the period, town life, and spirituality. Now a World Heritage Site, the city retains an abundance of treasured buildings, statues, and surrounding scenery. Admire the delicacy of the design and its resilience to the forces of nature and society. Remember to bring your camera, and note that crowds peak at midday. Ayutthaya Historical Park is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our online itinerary creator, Ayutthaya Edition.

  • Okay: it's not Ankara What, it's not Bagan, but though it's nice to visit. And it's not overcrowded. It has some good pavements, easy to walk and everything is pretty close.
  • Ayutthaya is a 2 hour van ride from Mochit Bus 2 bus station. Once you are there you will be approached by tuk tuk drivers. They will offer 4 hour tuk tuk rids for 1400 baht or 1 hour tours for 300 ba...  more »
  • We did it in excursion organized on a day from Bangkok, and we enjoyed it very much! Beautiful remains of temple, site by UNESCO. A must for understanding (a part of) the history of the Thailand, since most of the present temples are also present in Bangkok, modern version!

  • It is alright. Sukothai Historical Park is better in my opinion, but since that is more off the beaten path and about another 4 or 5 hours north by car, Ayutthata is a suitable substitute. It can get hot and crowded. It is also helpful to either hire a guide or bring a good guide book.
  • It was fun to explore the ancient ruins. Very very hot during the day with minimal shade. Bring lots of water and a parasol.
  • Nice tourist attraction although in my opinion under my expectation. Quite overcrowded & sometimes you could see elephants dung in the road
  • Nice historical place to visit. Tour guide would be adviced, otherwise a lot of interesting infomation will be missed.
  • A great place! The giant Buddha temple and the temple nearby are one of the best in my humble opinion.
