Ayutthaya Historical Park, Ayutthaya

4.6
Discover Thailand's rich and compelling history at Ayutthaya Historical Park, a settlement founded in 1350. The second Siamese capital, it was ransacked by the Burmese in the 18th century, yet its ruins still offer a fascinating glimpse into Asian architecture of the period, town life, and spirituality. Now a World Heritage Site, the city retains an abundance of treasured buildings, statues, and surrounding scenery. Admire the delicacy of the design and its resilience to the forces of nature and society. Remember to bring your camera, and note that crowds peak at midday. • While in Ayutthaya the park is a must see. The admission fee is cheap and the ruins are interesting. Doesnt take long to see it all as its not that big. An easy walk from anywhere in town. Did not see...  more »

  • We’ve recently traveled to Ayutthaya and met Thai Archaeologist while taking a walk around this historical place. We had some talk and it is useful to let everyone know. Because of the palace was burnt, no one could realize that each corner along the wall used to be the basement of Buddha statues. We saw many people stand on it in order to get only good photos. We love going here and hope this place will be preserved as it’s supposed to be for the future generations.
  • We spent a fairly interesting morning here a few days ago. Though the oppressive heat makes it hard to hang around for too long, the ruins were definitely worth a visit. It's sad that they've had to place warning signs on all of them asking tourists not to climb them though... Respect is common sense, as they say here. There's also a little souvenir market just past the entrance for anyone looking to take some history home with 'em.
  • Great small town, worth the visit due to the rich historical significance of the place. Here one finds ruins of many ancient temples and a beautiful park. Worth the entrance fee; be sure to take a pass for all sites so you don't miss anything. Sunsets are great here... so plan to spend the whole day.
  • This was one of the highlights to our trip to Thailand. It is a single train ride from Bangkok. You can take a boat across the river when you arrive. I recommend using bicycles to get around. There are many amazing temple complexes. It is very beautiful. In my opinion, it is comparable to Angkor however much less busy.
  • One of the Wonders of Thailand. I spent a few days visiting different sites. Weekends are so packed, do yourself a favour and try to go on a week day. Wheelchair accessible. Toilets on site. Bucket list it.
