4.6
Discover Thailand's rich and compelling history at Ayutthaya Historical Park, a settlement founded in 1350. The second Siamese capital, it was ransacked by the Burmese in the 18th century, yet its ruins still offer a fascinating glimpse into Asian architecture of the period, town life, and spirituality. Now a World Heritage Site, the city retains an abundance of treasured buildings, statues, and surrounding scenery. Admire the delicacy of the design and its resilience to the forces of nature and society. Remember to bring your camera, and note that crowds peak at midday. • We took the train from Bangkok train station which took about two hours. A faster option would be the minibus, but we opted train to see the countryside and to mix with the local. For the first half a...  more »
  • 1 h 30 from Bangkok, this tour is a staple of the region. Rent a bike in order to be completely free to your movements. Rent the as late as possible out of the bus, so you will pay less. We can absolutely wants an hour like 5 hours through these magnificent temples of all sizes and in all proportions. Attention to the price that often must be multiplied according to the sites you are browsing. Visit not to be missed in Thailand!

  • I've been here a couple of times. By far the best way to see it is in a small group with a private guide. There are a lot more temples than the big bus groups go to, and it's worth spending more time ...  more »

  • We’ve recently traveled to Ayutthaya and met Thai Archaeologist while taking a walk around this historical place. We had some talk and it is useful to let everyone know. Because the palace was burnt, no one could realize that each corner along the wall used to be the basement of Buddha statues. We saw many people stand on it in order to get only good photos. We love going here and hope this place will be preserved as it’s supposed to be for the future generations.

  • I loved this historical site. The buildings were striking and the area was well maintained - clean and mowed. There is not much interpretation around so either buy a book or higher a guide. I would like to have spent a few hours here (I had 30 minutes). There are quite a few strays - cats and dogs. Don't feed them.
  • One of the best temple complexes in Thailand. Has a lot of history and its quiet well maintained. Not so far from Bangkok (about 1,5 hour drive ). Loved the old ruins which remind a lot of Cambodian Temples. You should consider at least a two hour walk if you wanna see everything. This time of the year can get really busy because of the Thai television program which is set over there. Plenty of space for parking and entrance fee is 50.- baht
  • We spent a fairly interesting morning here a few days ago. Though the oppressive heat makes it hard to hang around for too long, the ruins were definitely worth a visit. It's sad that they've had to place warning signs on all of them asking tourists not to climb them though... Respect is common sense, as they say here. There's also a little souvenir market just past the entrance for anyone looking to take some history home with 'em.
