We felt that we had done a good job helping to feed, bath and wash the elephants. We really liked that elephants were not forced to do anything and activities were all left them and how they were... more »
I just returned from the sanctuary, it truly is an amazing experience. Between feeding and bathing the elephants, you get a feel how great these creatures are. The caretakers and the tour guide really love these animals. It is clear that the animals are well taken care of. Make sure to visit a place like this and not support other places where the elephants do tricks or are ridden on.
My wife and I had a wonderful experience at the elephant sanctuary. It was so heartwarming to meet these two old overworked girls that were so deserving of being pampered for their remaining days. The staff were so in tune to their needs. The mud bath was muddy and the the fresh water bathing area was clear and clean. I would highly recommend this sanctuary for any visit to Thailand if you want an experience of a lifetime with elephants! Your price of admission is going to a very good cause.
This afternoon we stayed in the Aonang Elephant Sanctuary. For us it was very important to visit and support a sanctuary that treats the elephants well. And first of all: Here in the Aonang Elephant Sanctuary the elephants are treated very well by each one. The accommodation is still quite new. At the moment they are taking care of two old lady elephants who had to work many years for their owners. However this Sanctuary is trying to rescue another third elephant with donation money. Elephants in Thailand is a complex topic and should not be part of this review. We are happy that we were able to support this project with our visit or love and or money (Most likely the best investment here in Thailand). After we arrived, we were asked to sit at a large table in front of the elephants. There our guide informed us about the elephants and their use in Thailand (complex topic) and the elephants could watch us to get a bit used to us. We were always able to ask our questions and these have been answered satisfactorily. Surprisingly, my wife and I were the only visitors in the afternoon visit. After a short introduction, we were allowed to feed the elephants, caress them and thereby gain their trust. The caretaker's contact with the elephants was always lovely. After feeding, we went for a walk on the area. The elephants followed us slowly and were allowed to rub the animals with mud, then went to bath in a pond. Both ladies have enjoyed the bath and played and sprayed with the water. To cool down, they have settled in the water. After the bath with the elephants, we could take a shower and put on our fresh clothes. After that, unfortunately, our time was over. This was by far the best activity we had during our stay in Thailand. Thanks again to the whole team. If all tourists would support elephant sanctuaries instead of elephant rides, fewer animals like these would suffer on this planet. The Aonang Elephant Sanctuary is a must for any Krabi visitor. Nowhere else you have the opportunity to get so close (physically and psychologically) to these majestic animals. If we are in Krabi again, we visit this sanctuary again, whether with or without program does not matter, the main thing is the animals and the staff are doing well and we do strongly believe that it will be like that in couple of years.
Great place! Staff are great, elephants are very friendly. They live in piece, after such long and tough working in jungle experience, they live free under the wonderful care. Help them to live more longer, come to this sanctuary, feed them, talk with them, hug them, bath them, eat with them. Recommend to feel this experience for everyone!
This place is amazing. Not to be confused with the elephant park down the road from this sanctuary that offers elephant rides, the aim of Aonang Elephant Sanctuary is to rescue elephants, that have been used in the tourism industry giving countless rides to misinformed tourists, who really don't understand the impact of elephant trekking on the elephants themselves. Spend the day at this sanctuary to be educated and immersed with two beautiful Thai elephants that are gentle in nature and full of character. The sanctuary is very well run, whilst you get the impression that the staff really care and are dedicated to giving a better quality of life to these beautiful creatures. The costs may seem a lot at first glance, but when you get to understand the amount of food that elephants require per day, land to roam in, plus the daily upkeep of the sanctuary, it's well worth it to spend time feeding and bathing them. Highly recommend this place and hope Thailand moves more towards this type of elephant interaction rather than the archaic riding. Give this place your support.
