  • Visited during the tour floating market "fruit paradise on the River Kwai". A very picturesque place, interesting boats and goods themselves. Cook right in the boat, ice cream in boats, clothing, paintings, trinkets "along". Recommend. But prices there are higher than in Pattaya.

  • If you want to see a true local floating market that's not geared to the tourists, this is where you want to go. However, if you're looking for a floating market that has all kinds of touristy souveni...  more »
  • Less touristy, natural, and original style of thai floating market you can find it here. All the stuff is cheap local price. Boat tour is longer than in damnoen saduak yet it cost only half price. Ver...  more »

  • Same story as most. Taxi took us there where they were asking for 4000 baht each. We assumed we wouldn't pay anything to visit a floating market. We didn't have that much in cash but were stupid and intimidated so agreed. Then I realized how much this was in our own money. I said to the taxi driver I wanted to go home and he looked dismayed, we'd paid 2500 and I said I want my money back and to return to my hotel (an hour and a half away!). The woman then showed us part of the ticket that said no refund, she dropped the price to 4000 baht for 2 of us when I still wanted to go back to the hotel. Had to endure the trip which was mainly awkward as you stop at stalls to buy cheap looking tat. A bit sad because it's ruined the whole morning. Would not recommend.
  • It's not a big floating market but it has a certain charm and you might find food you wouldn't find somewhere else
  • It's nice to see, but very touristic. Their are many Floating Markets in south east Asia I think this is not the best one. It's cheaper to buy something at the local markets.
  • Long historical floating market with the best local goods.
  • Very small market, not a lot of selection. Not the same experience as the other floating markets.

Where to stay in Amphawa

The small canalside village of Amphawa has a number of guesthouses in quaint, wooden buildings, and some hotels and resorts. As it gradually develops, new midrange accommodations pop up here and there. Consider arranging your stay in Amphawa for weekdays, as you'll likely be one of the only tourists here--lower room prices and lots of availability mean it's easy to book on the fly. Be aware that the weekends bring in a lot of tourism; prices will be inflated, and many places fully booked, so reserve ahead.
