Ngurdoto Crater, Arusha

4.7
#1 of 10 in Parks in Arusha
Observe herds of buffalo and warthogs in the marshland at the bottom of Ngurdoto Crater, a volcanic crater in the midst of a forest. This spectacular 100 m (328 ft) deep caldera spans some 3.6 km (2.2 mi) in diameter, with steep rocky cliffs formed when two volcanic cones merged and collapsed. Keep your eye out for reed bucks, black-and-white colobus monkeys, and blue monkeys. Note that there is no road to the crater and you cannot descend into the marsh, but you can stay on the rim and observe. Make Ngurdoto Crater a centerpiece of your Arusha vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Arusha travel itinerary planner.

  • A lovely day spent in the crater, it takes your breath away from the top, and there is so much to see, once inside.  more »
