Learn about different Shi’a movements at Ismaili Centre, an Islamic education center in Dushanbe promoting the Ismailism branch of Shi’a Islam. Opened in 2009 by Aga Khan and President Rahmon, this lavish building with elaborate traditional designs and five minarets features modern conference halls, as well as a school for Muslim children serving Tajikistan’s Ismaili minority. Dubbed the first Ismaili Shi’a center in Central Asia, the complex, named after the 10th-century founder of the Samanid dynasty and designed by a Pakistani-Canadian, has a lovely garden with a fountain.
