Landmark Tourist Spot
Learn about different Shi’a movements at Ismaili Centre, an Islamic education center in Dushanbe promoting the Ismailism branch of Shi’a Islam. Opened in 2009 by Aga Khan and President Rahmon, this lavish building with elaborate traditional designs and five minarets features modern conference halls, as well as a school for Muslim children serving Tajikistan’s Ismaili minority. Dubbed the first Ismaili Shi’a center in Central Asia, the complex, named after the 10th-century founder of the Samanid dynasty and designed by a Pakistani-Canadian, has a lovely garden with a fountain. Take a tour with a local volunteer. Make Ismaili Centre a part of your Dushanbe vacation plans using our Dushanbe trip itinerary builder.

  • Tajikistan is like home to me, it's a beautiful place to see how close people are with each other, ISD is a must see! They have detailed guided tours with lots of info on the building, pretty amazing at what humans can build. It's architectural perfection.
  • Peacefull and very strictly for jamat only. Really helpful volanteer staff, good size library and big car park.
  • One of the most beautiful and calm places in Dushanbe with an extraordenary architecture. Absolutely worth to (re-)visit!
  • Must visit this place. There are usually exhibitions, fairs and always excursions for everyone.
  • Beautiful architecture. Worth visiting. Touch Pamir without traveling there. In addition, fairs, seminars, workshops, and other activities take place there.

Where to stay in Dushanbe

By national capital standards, Dushanbe offers slim pickings in terms of accommodations. A small cluster around Khusravi Dekhlavi Street in the heart of the city includes a handful of Western chain hotels, while a smattering of smaller, more budget-friendly options can be found in the streets surrounding Rudaki Park. The youth hostel culture has yet to take off in Dushanbe, with only limited options catering to the backpacker crowd.
