Fine Arts Museum, Zhongshan District

4.0
#7 of 46 in Museums in Taipei
Learn about modern art at Fine Arts Museum, the first museum in the country to promote only modern art shows. The artwork starts with the architecture of the building itself, which is shaped like a pound sign (or hashtag) where you can spend a time admiring both local and international art exhibitions. Take a night stroll next to the museum to see the light show projected onto the building, forming yet another artistic installment. Families will appreciate the cafe with a playroom for children under the age of 5. You can purchase books in the basement museum bookstore, situated alongside the resting area. • The Fine Art Museum is in Chung Shan North Road. It was a welcome addition to Taipei's culture scene when it opened in 1983. It has some very good special exhibitions. Some of the most interesting exh...  more »
  • When we were in the December 2017 there, the Museum just because of renovation was closed. Instead, a huge bamboo installation, in which you can also go in and the rise was in front of the entrance. That was very impressive. This Bambusei is illuminated in the evening from 17:00 to 17:30 from the inside, on Saturdays until 20: 00. This then acts as a light dome. This special exhibition there until April 2018. Otherwise, Taiwan and some foreign modern art can be seen in the Museum.

  • Tho the building was closed at the time I visited due to renovation, the staff are warm and accomodating. Further, they gave me a copy of thier activities for the coming months plus a book about Fine Arts Museum which gave me an overview of what to see inside.
  • An uneven experiece: hit or miss. This museum changes its exhibits frequently, with varying results: from very entertaining to hopelessly pretentious - but for only 30 NT, you shouldn’t complain. In typical Taiwanese museum tradition, this place is cheap to enter, staffed by friendly people but very self-involved and local, with little regard for the user experience. Expect your long walk from the subway station to be rewarded with a museum that is closed for months for renovations. Check the website for opening dates; they don’t maintain their google map info.
  • This is very spacious, and they also have excellent exhibition. Their location is so accessible, and it is so convenient to go there. The spacious space is the main reason for me to go there, and I enjoy almost every time.
  • The museum is closed from October 2017 to late summer 2018. Check the website before you go.
  • If art is a reflection of our culture, then this was spot on. The selfie. Take a picture of me exhibit. Sad reflection of our self-centeredness. The fragmented pottery, an accurate statement resultant from our self-centeredness.
