Where to stay in Yilan County

The city center next to the main train station has a number of long-established hotels, with some particularly luxurious options including spas naturally heated from local hot springs. Some budget-friendly options, such as guesthouses and hostels, sit in this densely populated and very developed area, usually along side streets. Look to the south across the river for a good mix of different accommodations in the county townships, and to the hot springs park north of the main city center, where hotels--both luxurious and basic--boast onsite spas using the geothermal waters.

  • Dongshan River Water Park tends to be really busy during weekends in summer. Loads of people try to cool down so it's quite crowded then. Most of the attractions are quite accessible, except for the h...  more »

  • Lovely Outdoor Cycling! Experience: Lovely open park filled with kid-friendly dinosaur, artistic sculptures, open grass areas for picnics, park benches, wooden tables, rocking metal cradles/chairs, cycling paths, water fountains and more! Key Takeaway: Highly recommend coming with a group of friends to soak up some sun, or with family if you've got children. Recommend renting bicycles, or tandem bikes, or electronic bikes at the park entrance or elsewhere and cycle here.
  • Great scene but lousy bicycle service inside the park. Maybe renting a bike outside of the park is a better idea.
  • Large park with dinosaur sculptures connected to the cycling trail to Dongshan railway station. July & August outdoor swimming pools and Children's International Folk Festival. (Worth buying a seasonal ticket if plan going there more than once.) Dragon Boat Festival takes a place there. Public bathrooms, drinks vending machines, paid parking, in season additional services and food stalls. Tip for a trip: if are in the area, take train to Dongshan, rent bicycle opposite the railway station & explore that area.
  • Bicycle for rent is available here to explore the park
  • Love the water festival in summer
