Discover the life and revolution of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the National Father of the Republic of China, at National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Located in the Xinyi District of Taipei, this memorial and museum has been open to the public since 1972. The most popular tourist attraction at this site is the changing of the guards, which takes place every hour. At this cultural center you will find educational displays, a statue dedicated to Sun, a multimedia theater, audio-visual exhibits, and a library with more than 300,000 volumes. During your visit, you should also take a walk around the grounds, which are a part of Chung-shan Park, containing a performance center, gardens, and Emerald Pond. This place is located very close to Taipei 101, which makes it easy to find when you look for it on either google or iPhone map. It's beautiful architecture makes it even more so, gold yellow with red highlights. Many come to play games of Chinese chess with their friends and others dance to music, it truly is a place for everyone. What I enjoyed most though was not just history, but also the way it was honoured during the change of the guards which happens every hour, absolute military precision in their march. Be sure to find a spot early as it fills up very fast!
This is a nice place to visit in Taipei. The hall itself is very nice to look at. Next to it is a garden which also includes some statues of Sun Yatsen. In the hall itself are a lot of lecture hall, a small art gallery, a big statue and in the basement is a buffet restaurant. Once every hour you can see the guard change which is very well choreographed and fun to look at. It's very impressive. From the back of the building you have a good view on Taipei 101.
It was a fascinating memorial. We were fortunate to be their during the changing of the guard. A really interesting event extremely stylized and executed. The museum provides considerable insight into the formation of present day Taiwan. There also several art galleries. Admission is free. Well worth the time
If you going to travel over trams in this national memorial site I would recommend also seeing th the famous Taipei 101 skyscraper. They’re within walking distance and start with this national memorial and then the Taipei 101 second. Once you have the 102 finished there are a multitude of restaurants to choose from for lunch or dinner. I recommend the always popular world famous Ichiran ramen.
There's a park surrounding it. Good exhibitions inside. Walking distance from Taipei 101
