Yeh Liu Geo Park, Xinbei

4.3
#1 of 175 in Nature in Taiwan
Stretching some 1,700 m (5,577 ft) into the ocean, Yeh Liu Geo Park serves as a natural exhibition area for some of the strangest tent rock formations in the world. Dotted with hoodoo stones, the promontory offers fantastic views of the distinctive geological formations created in Miocene, which pushed the Dalian Mountains out of the sea. Marvel at the rocky Queen’s Head, the rock resembling a profile of Elizabeth II Queen of England, then check out Sea Candles, Fairy’s Shoe, or Ginger Rock. You can have fun concocting your own name for some of the shapes while walking through a forest of tall mushroom-shaped rocks. This bizarre Martian-like landscape can be reached by bus 90 minutes from West Taipei station. • Small time to go to a good place, the sea wind is very large, you can see the sea along the coast of the Earth changes, after several million years of seawater invaded Marine, travel a lot of distinctive pillars, with educational water standards!

  • This was beautiful! Enjoyed the sea breeze and natural beauty of the rock formations. It was also child friendly because we had no trouble going around because we can push the stroller along the path.  more »
  • The impression that the No Liu Park is quite different from that of the hour, after 30 years of evolution, has become a land of the park, and from the world's various nations came here to see the Queen. There are a lot of working people watching, fearing that the passengers don't slip down the sea, so they often whistle and warn against the warning line. The scenery is really beautiful, we are in mid-August noon to go, very very hot, we must wear ink mirror, sun umbrella or wearing a hat to protect the eyes, but also to wipe the sun lotion, the sun is too poisonous. The field of the four-year-old class in the country is worth taking a little look at.

  • People come here for the iconic rock formation called Queen’s Head and the lunar-like landscape but there are other interesting things in the area. There is a lesser known rock formation in the shape of a gorilla’s head. There’s also a hilltop observatory and lighthouse that can be reached by foot in at least 20 minutes. The small park leading to the rock formations is quite neat and has several replicas of Queen’s Head. The beach area is off-limits to the public. I wish it was not but I do understand why.
  • Just 2 hours from Taipei and it's worth the travel. There's a bus you can take from Taipei Main station (East gate) which is 1815. Less than NT$160. Entrance fee is NT$80. You will get an awesome view of the geological wonder in Yehliu. Great workout too! Make sure to wear comfy shoes.
  • The queen's head was much smaller than I thought. it is very crowded during holiday and weekends. You have to queue to take photo with queen's head. The queue was really long. there are so many beautiful scenes. The rocks are so unique.
  • The place is beautiful...in theory. But I guess it's because we went on a particularly crowded afternoon that we didn't get to appreciate it as much. It's still worth the travel here, though. Just plan your timing wisely.
  • Most people came here for Queen's Head. But it's really nothing special. Still an awesome place. I recommend taking the long trail up the mountain.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
