  • Fresh-water streets are filled with the usual steps of everyday life, a deeper and more concentrated atmosphere, and the city alleys near the old Street will also feel a special life atmosphere. The Morning Bazaar, a tour of the shops in the afternoon, watching the sunset by the riverside in the evening.

  • Sure, it takes some time to travel from Taipei to Tamsui but it will be worth the journey. Train ride was comfortable and once alight at Tamsui train station, one could start perusing the knick-knacks...  more »
  • It's a great leisure space, with a large meadow, visitors can walk or pedal their own cars, when someone comes to perform, sing, and quiet to find a place to rest and blow, there are numerous old streets, there are different snacks, shop cobblestone, is a place to stay for most of the day.

  • Very nice view and you could find many little shops around the area. You can also have drinks or small dishes on the road. It is very close from the MRT and is convenient to get there. I did not know that what you see from there is not the sea but a big river that later connects to the sea.
  • Beautiful place to visit on any evening, but sunsets are quite amazing on a clear day. The classic street food to consume is 阿給, which is fried tofu stuffed with stir fried rice noodles and braised until tender. But you can find lots of other street foods here including grilled squid and soft serve ice cream. I like to pick up packages of iron quail eggs (鐵蛋) for souvenir. It's a bit of a walk, but there are several historical buildings and viewpoints such as Fort San Domingo or Lovers Bridge nearby.
  • Loved the walk by the seaside with food stores. Nice atmosphere. The cheese sponge cake (usually has a bit of a queue) was delicious. The noodles in tofu dish (supposedly a specialty) is average tasting.
  • I visited this place twice and will go back again. This is pretty laid-back compared with other parts of Taipei I have been to. What do I like about this place? The almost rustic ambiance and the wet market reminds me of my childhood hometown back in Singapore. I took a local bus to The Fisherman's Wharf with a little bit of walking and then the ferry back to Tamsui, for NT$60.
  • Lots of food and interesting things to do. This place has nice views of the harbour and mountains good for taking kids along. Cars are not allowed on the lower walking path.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
