Shifen Waterfall Walk Area, Xinbei

4.0
See why people call Shifen Waterfall Walk Area "Little Niagara of Taiwan." The cascade, 20 m (66 ft) high and 40 m (130 ft) wide, represents the broadest waterfall in Taiwan. Take a walk to the viewpoint, enjoying the scene of mountains and forests. At certain places along the river you might notice small vortices that carve holes into the bottom due to an uneven flow. The powerful current takes water into a pool below, where you can often see rainbows with water splashes. A visit to Shifen Waterfall Walk Area represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Xinbei online road trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • I've been to the waterfall twice, and every time I've been to the amazing, the scenery is beautiful and the waterfall is very strong. It's perfect for a family or another half to go outing to a very waterfall and go to pinghsi or a very old street.

  • It was beautiful! Enjoyed the scenery. Unfortunately, it was not too child friendly. As it was hard to bring along a toddler, who didn't want to walk and was too heavy to be carried all the way, insid...  more »
  • Long Wen very waterfall, finally in a glimpse of the beautiful waterfall is worth visiting car parked in the parking field, take a road ahead, there will be signs, followed by. There will be a lot of viewers, not afraid to go. There is a passenger service center, where people are very intimate, you can ask her the way. There is also water available in the Passenger service center, and the hand-washing is clean. There are three places in the area where the waterfall is photographed, in the top, middle, and bottom, not afraid to walk and climb, for every scene is beautiful and worth filming.

  • Would have rated 5 star if I caught the waterfall. Missed the opening hours. It closes at 4.30pm when visited in April 2017. It's quite far to walk from Shifen old street because after a 20min walk, there's a long stretch of walk to arrive at the entrance of the park. Have to visit during park opening hour to get any view of the waterfall. There are two viewing decks at two sides of the waterfall. Not sure if there's connecting path in the park. Outside the park, you'd need to walk quite a bit to travel from one to the other.
  • I went there to experience a hike and waterfall with my mum and we enjoyed our day out there. if you going to visit this place and you are far out from Tapei it is recommended to leave for first train from your area. hike is usually 15~25 minutes to waterfall , very light hike on road alongside mountain. you can opt in for an electric scooter but hiking is a lot more fun. there's some things to see. the food is however pricier than any other local street market, so be prepared to bring your own edibles should you decide to not spend too much on the trip.
  • Four stars because, unlike other one-trick pony attractions, a visit here will cost you nothing (except for transportation)! Jokes aside, it's a charming little waterfall. The shade and cool is a nice change of pace if it's the middle of summer and you're other stops have all been to places without any shade.
  • A beautiful waterfall, about 20-30 minutes walk from Shifen town. It was a pleasant walk with changing trails along the way. It's definitely not as busy as the town itself since a lot of people seem to skip the waterfall. There is a tourist information center with one cafe in between the town and the waterfall, so be sure to eat and drink at the town before you head out here if you think you will get hungry and thirsty. Strongly recommended for those who love nature and walking!
  • Waterfall, train station, lantern worthy for the experience. On holiday, so much people come to there. Attention time when go by train

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
