Shifen Waterfall Walk Area, Xinbei

4.0
See why people call Shifen Waterfall Walk Area "Little Niagara of Taiwan." The cascade, 20 m (66 ft) high and 40 m (130 ft) wide, represents the broadest waterfall in Taiwan. Take a walk to the viewpoint, enjoying the scene of mountains and forests. At certain places along the river you might notice small vortices that carve holes into the bottom due to an uneven flow. The powerful current takes water into a pool below, where you can often see rainbows with water splashes. A visit to Shifen Waterfall Walk Area represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Xinbei online road trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • It rains a lot more in the next day I came to see the cool waterfalls. So small, but I've only seen

  • When the weather is good, it is really very "positive", waterfall water sound is in turmoil ..., first to the other side of the bridge down the stairs, the long staircase down the stairs, the mountain is quiet and comfortable. But I'm glad to go back to that long staircase! Super tired

  • It is difficult to take the children out together, to pinghsi a day can not miss the spectacular scene, very Liu waterfall than imagined still strong shock, the viewing platform is designed with many different viewing angles, allowing visitors to capture spectacular views, although it is like climbing the mountain, but the whole feeling is very comfortable, it is worth visiting the scene

  • This place wasn't what I was expecting when I decided to come visit a waterfall. However, it was quite the enjoyable visit! The walk over from the parking lot takes you over two pedestrian suspension bridges and several good photo ops. There are a couple of viewing platforms and there is a path that gets you right down to the base of the waterfall. I recommend picking up a snack after viewing the waterfall.. then going to the nearby town to set off a couple of sky lanterns! This stop should definitely be part of your trip!
  • stunning waterfall. too bad it's a cloudy day the day I went but still very beautiful. it's a 20-minute walk from the Shifen old street or you can choose to take a taxi if you are travelling in group, otherwise the taxi fee could be expensive. although it's not a difficult hike track, I would suggest you to wear some comfortable wears if you plan to go there. There are a few shops for drinks and small street foods there.
  • Gorgeous waterfall and definitely worth a visit. It looked like there were a good number of trails nearby and it would have been amazing to check them out so I'll have to return next time. Lots of school kids there on what looked like field trips but still not overly crowded. Definitely worth adding to a Jiufen tour.
  • The walk to the falls is a bit long. You have to walk thru a hanging bridge to get there. Waterfall is not too big but its nice. One nice thing as well is that there are multiple vantahe points to take your desired shot.
  • Its worth every muscle to get there from Shifen. Just 20mins away from the train station. If you are lazy or not able to walk, a taxi service is readily available just a couple of minutes away from the crowded train line shops a couple of streets away. They charge NTD$100 for a single trip. There are a lot more walking once you get the the entrance of the waterfall area. Plenty of resting place in between for toilet and food breaks. The waterfall is well worth it at the end.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
