Shifen Waterfall, Xinbei

3.9
#3 of 49 in Parks in Xinbei
Observe nature at its best at Shifen Waterfall. Surrounded by the thick forest, you can witness the power of water as it falls from the tall rocks into the green pool below. You'll have the chance to light a paper lantern and send it out into the sky--with a wish--watch as it flies over the waterfall. Wear footwear with good grip, as the path can get pretty wet around this spot. Take a break at the visitor center, where you can enjoy a meal or some liquid refreshment. Our Xinbei journey maker website makes visiting Shifen Waterfall and other Xinbei attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Raise the lanterns from the Dim and I went to the falls 10 minutes before. Imagine a big head say Niagara Falls is not much. Easy just because Park Observatory next to the waterfall and spins around while you can enjoy at various angles, and in front of the upper and lower. So close to the 16:30 waterfall in the Park at the entrance does not go to it (it was visited in January). Waterfall near the shops as well, walked and then up and down the hurried away from the station while we ordered the lemon juice and was cheaper than the station or ordered them, skewer the price setting, decided to take a break from Lantern would go up as well.

  • My first impression of this scenic area is the facilities built up for visitors by the local government. Really appreciate their effort to make visitors comfortably walk around to view the Waterfalls ...  more »
  • tiny "waterfall". Not sure what the exact definition is, but this is very small. nothing impressive. about a million other waterfalls in this world that would be better than this in every way. can ski...  more »

  • This place wasn't what I was expecting when I decided to come visit a waterfall. However, it was quite the enjoyable visit! The walk over from the parking lot takes you over two pedestrian suspension bridges and several good photo ops. There are a couple of viewing platforms and there is a path that gets you right down to the base of the waterfall. I recommend picking up a snack after viewing the waterfall.. then going to the nearby town to set off a couple of sky lanterns! This stop should definitely be part of your trip!
  • Gorgeous waterfall and definitely worth a visit. It looked like there were a good number of trails nearby and it would have been amazing to check them out so I'll have to return next time. Lots of school kids there on what looked like field trips but still not overly crowded. Definitely worth adding to a Jiufen tour.
  • Not a high waterfall but definitely a beauty. Took a nice walk through the marketplace and nature from train station to the waterfall. Enjoyed the scenery along the way.
  • It was rainy when I visited but it was still oh so beautiful. I enjoyed the long walk from the Shifen old street to this spot because everything was scenic! It was one of the highlights of my trip to Taiwan. 😍
  • The facilities were clean and new. The falls aren't big but scenic enough. Lots of parking nearby too. I like to just sit near the river and just calmly enjoy nature and its splendor.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
