Sanxia Old Street, Xinbei

3.7
#37 of 188 in Things to do in Xinbei
Sanxia Old Street, once an important commercial center, serves as one of the longest old streets in northern Taiwan. The 200-m (656 ft) pedestrian zone features early 20th century Baroque-style buildings, which were restored to their former glory in 2007. Red brick archways adorned with traditional Chinese-style carvings stretch down the street that was once home to numerous merchant houses. Today you can come here to grab a bite to eat, sip on a nice hot cup of traditional tea, or pick up some local handicrafts. Plan my trip to Xinbei with suggested itineraries provided by Inspirock.

  • Nice old street architecture. Things abit commercialised, but locals do come here and shop as well. Try the bull horn pastry, there are a few stalls so just pick your liking. The longest original stall only sells one flavour. There is a stall that makes hand made candy. You can try the stretch candy.
  • One of the most beautiful temples in the country. Various vendors selling food, clothes, and toys on the Old Street. A good half-day trip from Taipei accessible by MRT & bus or TRA & bus.
  • xu ma ma has tasty fermented tofu.(dofulu)
  • Looks authentic. Street food. There is poetry shop with beautiful Vases.
  • We stopped over here from Yunsen Waterfalls. It's a beautiful old street with unique architecture and interesting shops.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
