Sanxia Old Street, Xinbei

#19 of 91 in Sightseeing in Xinbei
Landmark Tourist Spot
Sanxia Old Street, once an important commercial center, serves as one of the longest old streets in northern Taiwan. The 200-m (656 ft) pedestrian zone features early 20th century Baroque-style buildings, which were restored to their former glory in 2007. Red brick archways adorned with traditional Chinese-style carvings stretch down the street that was once home to numerous merchant houses. Today you can come here to grab a bite to eat, sip on a nice hot cup of traditional tea, or pick up some local handicrafts. Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.

  • It's a well maintained old street that isn't too crowded on weekdays. It's quite accessible even though I waited at the wrong bus stop from Yingge station. The horn bread is a must try! Give the tiny ...  more »

  • Starting at Yonging mrt stop on the blue line take bus 916 and it drops off at the sanxia old street. Another possible but longer ride is Ximen mrt bus 706 also dropping at the sanxia old streert. Walk down the street with the family mart about 5 or 10 minutes. On that road there are some delicious food stops my favorite is pictured they havea beef pancake roll up, hot and sour soup, and dumplings that are unparalleled and homemade. This area/street also has a huge bustling morning market similar to a farmers market. Sanxia old street is know for many things but I mostly love trying all the local treats so be sure to try the bull horn bread! Theres lots of flavors try getting one from each place to see what your favorite is!!!
  • A simple place to walk around. There are a few shop houses selling food and souvenirs
  • It's very well maintained , and some shops will allow you to walk all the way in.
  • Beautiful street with interesting architecture. Plenty of little shops and vendors. Touristy, but not too expensive. Bring your camera and take a few hours to explore on a nice day.
  • Beautiful old street with many good food. Together with YingGe it can be a wholesome 1 day trip. A must buy for both locals and foreigners are the taiwanese croissant! (牛角)they also sell the famous shenkeng stinky tofu there.
