Sanhsia Old Street, Xinbei

(130+ reviews on the web)
Landmark
With striking architecture distinct from the rest of the island, Sanhsia Old Street allows visitors to soak up a truly Taiwanese atmosphere, through sampling food and window-shopping. Historically the area was an important center for the distribution of goods in northern Taiwan, with many shops selling dyes and teas. Most of the buildings here were built during the Japanese occupation of the early 20th century, and the preserved shops and temples make for interesting architectural sightseeing. Look out for the street's famous cow-horn croissants and candy-makers. Plan your visit to Sanhsia Old Street and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Xinbei vacation route planner.

  • It's very well maintained , and some shops will allow you to walk all the way in.
  • Beautiful street with interesting architecture. Plenty of little shops and vendors. Touristy, but not too expensive. Bring your camera and take a few hours to explore on a nice day.
  • Beautiful old street with many good food. Together with YingGe it can be a wholesome 1 day trip. A must buy for both locals and foreigners are the taiwanese croissant! (牛角)they also sell the famous shenkeng stinky tofu there.
  • Sanxia Old Street (三峽老街) in New Taipei City (Xinbei/新北市), Taiwan (臺灣/台灣) is a beautifully preserved example of Japanese colonial architecture. Stores along the street sell art, ceramics and local specialties like bullorn croissants. Other areas of interest include the Qingshui Zushi Temple (清水祖師廟) and the Zhangfu or Changfu pedestrian bridge (長福橋). Photos ©2017 Sanjib Dutta
