Sanhsia Old Street, Xinbei

3.9
#20 of 188 in Things to do in Xinbei
With striking architecture distinct from the rest of the island, Sanhsia Old Street allows visitors to soak up a truly Taiwanese atmosphere, through sampling food and window-shopping. Historically the area was an important center for the distribution of goods in northern Taiwan, with many shops selling dyes and teas. Most of the buildings here were built during the Japanese occupation of the early 20th century, and the preserved shops and temples make for interesting architectural sightseeing. Look out for the street's famous cow-horn croissants and candy-makers. Put Sanhsia Old Street into our Xinbei trip itinerary maker tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Old town (downtown), first visited on a package tour. The Temple so beautifully carved vivid. Local people felt the depth of faith (we don't offering), dedicated to prayer from the heart. Old town is very cold the rain is constant on the day was very impressive.

  • It was off the beaten path. Fewer Japanese tourists and at night was beautiful. Personally most like in Taiwan, so you can feel the whiff of Taiwan. Might be difficult to go so there is little distance from Taipei. But the visit is.

  • There are many snacks in the three-Strait street, the pedestrian area is not bad, holiday is a lot of people, but will not be crowded to walk. The two sides of the red brick-style building to maintain a good, the advice of early people less photographed better. There are large parking fields around the perimeter, and parking is not a problem.

  • Nice old street architecture. Things abit commercialised, but locals do come here and shop as well. Try the bull horn pastry, there are a few stalls so just pick your liking. The longest original stall only sells one flavour. There is a stall that makes hand made candy. You can try the stretch candy.
  • One of the most beautiful temples in the country. Various vendors selling food, clothes, and toys on the Old Street. A good half-day trip from Taipei accessible by MRT & bus or TRA & bus.
  • xu ma ma has tasty fermented tofu.(dofulu)
  • Looks authentic. Street food. There is poetry shop with beautiful Vases.
  • Interesting to enjoy Taiwanese atmosphere surrounded with old architectures.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
