Queen's Head, Xinbei

#6 of 51 in Parks in Xinbei
Nature / Park
Witness 4,000 years old Queen's Head, which got its name because it resembles Queen Elizabeth. Strong winds, seawater, and erosion formed this mushroom rock. The current name came into existence after the top of the rock formation fell off, causing it to look like the queen's profile. This natural wonder and tourist attraction is in danger of falling, as the "neck" portion of the rock gets smaller every year. You can purchase figures of this rock formation at a nearby souvenir shop. Add Queen's Head and other attractions to your Xinbei trip itinerary using our Xinbei trip itinerary maker.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.

  • My friends and I were able to get there around noon time so it was too hot but we still got there and managed to get pictures. There was already a line, albeit short, in order to take a picture with t...  more »
  • You shouldn't come see this just because it is special. I think seeing it in real person would just be the same as seeing it on Google Images (and btw, when you actually get to stand in front of it, i...  more »
  • The formation is just beautiful and one gets surprised by acts of mother nature. To see you have to travel for an hour plus by bus from Taipie. Not to be missed attraction  more »

  • It’s the iconic symbol of Yehliu. It’s interesting but it gets old pretty fast. Check out another interesting rock formation (a gorilla’s head) that is somehow not popular with visitors. In the summer, arrive early to avoid the insanely long queue and the scorching heat.
  • There was a queue just to take a picture with the Queen's head. A tourist attraction. Not really worth the queue - the entire geopark is much nicer than the structure on its own.
  • beautiful queens head! but so long waiting photo line , took 30min...
  • Great place for relaxation. It just takes 40 minutes drive from downtown Taipei to reach the place. When you see Queen Elizabeth's Head and you only say "Seeing is believing."
  • Definitely a must see in Keelung! The hard sand rocks are beautiful. The famous "Queen's Head" is slowly wearing away with wind/weather, so better go see it while the head's still up! ;)
