With car hire has been seen through the 9 minutes from Taipei. Kiyama Street entrance of 9-eleven was a traffic jam of cars. From there run a bit narrow mountain roads. Old Japan mansions have been restored. I tried to say to the entrance of the Golden shrine, straight staircase in the old one's seventieth birthday a little unreasonable, far below the port and the sea while enjoying returned. Way is the brick pavement and the stairs are very steep. A very fashionable name school name at the bottom of the entrance is reminiscent of "drizzle" school and heading home Sir.

It takes two hours with two different buses to get to the gold mining museum from Taipei, and it is not worth the long trip. The Museum is boring and consists primarily to exhibitions of jewelry and art from goldsmiths. The most interesting part of the Museum was to come down in a tunnel that has been rebuilt, but it cost extra and was nothing more than a short walk in a dripping tunnel.

The owners are very friendly and have great stories to tell. They even let me buy a rock with gold!

Nice intro tour by the owner :) & souvenirs. At first I thought this museum old & "forgotten" by visitors, but who knows what's inside. Although it might be boring at first, but this nice guy (who is passionate on preserving family tradition on gold mining) gave us interesting insight on why & how gold is mined and processed. Worth a visit & don't forget to buy souvenirs.

Is much better than it looks on the outside. The man running the place was really passionate about the mining history of Taiwan, and gave us a detailed tour, as well as a demo. You learn a lot about gold mining in general, great for people interested in geology. It's only 100 NT to get in, and 80 if you're a student.

Great intimiate tour from an ex miner! Abundant samples and relics and demonstrations. Loved it! Do not be fooled by the outside

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
