Fort San Domingo, Xinbei

3.9
#1 of 16 in Museums in Xinbei
Experience a throwback to the British Colonial era in Taiwan by visiting Fort San Domingo. The Spaniards originally built the wooden fort, which the Dutch reinforced with stone when they took over it. The British were its final owners, and they turned it into a consulate. The fortress resides on a hill and serves as a museum. Take in the view of the surrounding hills and the city, learn about the history of the building from the exhibits, and walk its grounds. Plan a trip to Xinbei easily and quickly by telling Inspirock to suggest an itinerary.

One of the attractions in Tamsui. A bit of a walk from the "old street" though. Very nicely preserved fort. Very picturesque. There's many signage not to sit on the ledge, so be careful!  more »

Spring holiday location, tour guests Luo Yi is not absolute, Students walk beside the new Taipei City posted by ticket-free access. Environment comfortable and pleasant, good vitamin o, sell also 賞 畫 Hin/f House. Imagine when years of public office live leadership model model courses, descriptions of lessons inside Macedonia when bird's life.

Great expectations, rather than naturally recommend to visit. Rates are pricey, but with the tourists.

Overall a nice place. The view over the bay is amazing and the place is quiet. The exhibition is quite small so don't expect to stay there more than 1 or 2 hours. Very important, don't forget your mosquito repellant! Also note that the place is not suitable for wheelchair and it is not convenient for baby stroller.

A nice historical location with a rich multi-national history. Well preserved and maintained. Definitely worth checking out if in the area.

There's no "wow!" factor here. But its about as good as it gets for history stuff in Tamsui. Theres no trace of a fort as such, rather a utility building and a consular residence for successive English ambasadors to make it easier for them to plunder Taiwan's resources back to England

Historical building. Can be quite challenging to go with baby stroller, but still achievable. Ticket sold together with nearby Athleia University, Oxford College and Little White House (if i remember the place name correctly)

The buildings are quite interesting. I highly recommend to join one of the free tour guide sessions if you understand Chinese. The guides are really informative.

Where to stay in Xinbei

Far more accommodations lie in adjacent Taipei than in Xinbei. That said, if you're keen to stay in Xinbei, you won't have any problems finding a place to sleep. Banqiao district offers the largest collection of hotels, guesthouses, and hostels in the new city, particularly around Fuzhong station. A similar variety, but greater number, of accommodations can be found in Taipei's central district, with a vast array of hotels great and small, guesthouses, hostels, and boutiques available to the east of the Tamsui River.
