Lungshan Temple, Wanhua

4.3
Known by locals as a "meeting place of the gods," Lungshan Temple serves as one of the oldest and most famous temples in Taiwan. Han settlers from Fujian established the temple in 1738, dedicating it to Kuan-in, the Mother of Mercy, which is represented by a statue in the main hall. This statue was left intact after the main hall was destroyed in an air-raid near the end of World War II. Over the years, the temple suffered damage from cyclones, earthquakes, and fires, but has been restored repeatedly. See numerous Taoist deities in the back hall testifying to the tolerant nature of the Chinese religions. The name of the temple translates to "Dragon Mountain," which explains the colorful dragons on the roof and the intricately carved twirling dragons on the bronze pillars at the entrance. A visit to Lungshan Temple represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Taipei journey planning site to plot your vacation.

  • Taiwan Temple, there is a wide variety of offerings, there is an image that the smoke of incense Mokumoku. However, the smoke of the incense stick was unexpectedly few here. Considering the impact on the environment, it is said that the incense stick was limited to one person. There seems to be pros and cons, but I guess that's the time. In front of the god of love, I prayed for happiness while looking sideways at the young man repeatedly throwing two wooden bills to draw a fortune.

  • I have seen many temples and this was just another one. Very popular but just a quick stop. Not spectacular.  more »
  • I heard that various gods were enshrined and many locals went there. It is a pretty crowd and the smoke of the incense stick from the morning. Because it happened on a high temperature day, it was a visit to be sweaty. Because it is a popular spot in the guidebook, I think that it is also good to visit once.

  • When I come there is a lot of Japanese tourist😍 ,then the first we will welcoming can see beautiful artificial waterfall. And also nearby with "Night market tourist"
  • Great place to see a great Chinese temple. This place is packed with worshipers and some tourists. There are several gods and it is interesting to see them how they show their devotion. I wish that they would put some English written guide when you go in the temple. The man made waterfalls is an interesting and a welcome sight.
  • Very popular temple in Taipei. Lots of tourists. Apparently there was a famous Taiwanese movie scene made here I think. A small token of appreciation is enough, save the large donations for those who actually need it.
  • The most famous temple in Taipei where both local people and tourists coming here to make a wish. After enter the main gate, you would find artificial waterfall on the right side, and fountain in the pond on the left side. Inside the temple, you will hear people praying continuously. It's great to see facilities for people with disabilities such as wheelchair ramp.
  • You can find internal peace in this temple even you’re not Buddhist. Friendly to tourist, there’s English version of fortune telling explanations. Highly recommend signing up for local walking tour that you can hear the interesting history of Long-Shan temple and understand Taiwan’s unique culture.
