Take a stroll along crowded Tonghua Night Market and taste traditional Taiwanese food. At night, the street fills with about 200 stalls selling an array of food for those up for a late snack. You can try Taiwanese hamburgers made from stewed meat, or taste various noodle soups, omelets, and sausages. For dessert, try the local sponge cake, which might well become your kids’ favorite treat. Affordable, tasty dishes attract locals every night, giving you the chance to absorb the area's lifestyle and traditions. • As the night fell, the street is vividly crowded with shoppers and gourmet lovers. The neon signs that line the streets of Tonghua make it loud and attractive to the shoppers. It’s one of the busiest street markets in central Taipei. You’ll not only get to experience exotic delicacies of Taiwan but also Malaysian and Japanese. The market in particular attracts people of all age groups. The young ones like me come here for fashionable clothing, while the families come for daily goods and delicious foods. There’s a big central islet which has various vendors, selling everything from fresh fruits like strawberries to fried pig’s knuckles and braised duck tongue for the brave hearts. Apparently the pig's knuckle from the forefoot is deliciously succulent. In the northern part of the country, it is generally stewed in a light broth whereas it is a braised in a flavourful soy sauce in the southern part of the country.
  • Can get pretty crowded. Have a good selection of food at good prices. It's not too big but you can definitely be satisfied.
  • I love shopping and snacking in this night market. I liked to start on Keelung by the pet stores and go straight down enjoying the wares, before eating on Tonghua.
  • One of my favorite night markets, best location, best xiao long bao, best hong you chao shou of any night market.
  • Very pleasant small to medium sized night market. Some very good food with a nice variety of choices

Taipei offers an impressive selection of accommodation options for every type of budget. For the least expensive rooms, consider areas near the main train station. You can usually find deep discounts online, so it pays to plan at least a month in advance. If you prefer to play it safe and don't mind paying a top price, go for one of the city's four- or five-star hotels, most of which offer quick access to popular tourist areas and some of the best shopping and dining spots.
