Taipei Zhongshan Hall (Taipei City Public Auditorium), Taipei

3.4
#18 of 40 in Historic Sites in Taipei
An important historic site built to mark the ascension of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito, Taipei Zhongshan Hall (Taipei City Public Auditorium) originally functioned as the city hall. The formal ceremony of the Japanese surrender of Taiwan to China in 1945 happened here, and afterward it served as the official meeting place of the ROC National Assembly and the venue of formal inauguration ceremonies. Major official gatherings (welcoming foreign diplomats) have always taken place here. Currently, the hall's several auditoriums host music and dance performances, ceremonies, and art exhibitions. You can attend one of these or simply explore the inside of the building at any time, but do be informed about the events before visiting. Also note that the staff speaks mainly Chinese. Put Taipei Zhongshan Hall (Taipei City Public Auditorium) into our Taipei family vacation planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

It is housed in a building built during the reign of Japan by Japanese designer who once made as well as the signing of the surrender document. Now unwind at the square in front of others, or is used during the event and is a place of recreation and relaxation for citizens.

This place is named after the founding father of R.O.C., Sun-Yat Sen. The reason why this building built during the Japanese colonial time is so special is because this is where Japan surrendered Taiwan to Allies after the second world war. Now it's a nice convention used to host events like Taipei Film Festival or Taipei Lantern Festival. In fact, there's FREE walking tour takes you here called "Old Town Taipei Tour". Join them if you want to learn more about the history of Taipei.
