Huaxi street Night Market, Taipei

#25 of 121 in Shopping in Taipei
Watch the city come to life at night as you experience Huaxi street Night Market. Open for 50 years, the distinct market stands out because of the architectural style, with a traditional Chinese gate and red lanterns that line the roofed street. Known for Chinese herbs and medicine, food in the market is a guilty pleasure for gastronomes; find all kinds of strange delicacies like turtle testicles and snake penis, which earned the street its infamous name "snake alley." Plenty of restaurants offer fresh seafood (besides exotic snacks), so you fully experience Taiwan city nightlife. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Taipei holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Huaxi street Night Market and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • This is a delightful place if you fancy gritty, urban REAL life as opposed to touristy schlock. It is quite near Longshan Temple and I visited the Banquio area nearby. There were herbalists, snakes, a...  more »
  • We've been here on previous trips to Taipei , but today's visit convinced me there is no reason to return. Loaded with massage parlours and meat-laced eateries for locals. No place for vegetarians. No...  more »
  • There are many different types of night markets but at Huaxi street is absolutely one of the best. There are lots of exciting restaurants with a wide variety of different types of food and drink. There are many different kinds of stores but also things like beauty, nail-and foot massage parlors. It is full of life and lots of movement. Well worth a visit even for the experienced hiker night market.

  • Has expanded a lot since I was last there. Now there are a lot of choices for great massages too. Shop around to find the deals. If you go to the covered section of the night market, there are some shops selling curio stuff and lots of stuff that's more about the culture. Look for the shops selling scrolls and fans. Great artwork and perfect for travelling so you can bring home a souvenir.
  • great market lots of food and fun you can enjoy this place a lot if you like arcade games and cheap food compared to other markets it is small and not very long to completely finish visiting overall great place after visiting the nearby temple ... enjoyed as a quick visit watch out for snakes there are some in the allay way
  • Another must see night food market in Taipei. This one is slightly more traditional then the others (therefore quieter) but still worth a visit as it's full of locals (which is always a good sign).
  • So many food to choose from! From Chinese, Japanese and some grilled foods! YOu must try this place.
  • A lot of street food and stalls selling anything and everything. There's a stall selling fried noodles with eel, it delicious!
