3.7/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web
The largest bathhouse in this part of the world at the time it was built, Beitou Hot Spring Museum invites you to start exploring the rich history and culture of Beitou’s hot springs. A Japanese magistrate built the Victorian-style building with a Japanese interior in 1913. The red brick first floor houses the original public baths, where a large central pool, elegantly decorated with stained glass windows, was reserved for male customers only. In a niche in front of its entrance, see a giant piece of "hokutolite" or Beitou stone--a precious mineral with healing properties. The wooden second floor features a tatami lobby and several exhibition areas, including a multimedia auditorium where you can watch an educational video about the museum. The view from the balcony explains why in the 1970s, Beitou was known as the Taiwanese Hollywood. • If you go to Beitou for work, study or pleasure you can't visit the Hot Spring Museum. The Museum was opened in late 1988 back the Beitou Public Spa. Is a Japanese-style building on three levels. You will see the baths and spas and through multimedia devices you will know its history. It is said that during the Japanese occupation the kamikaze spending there, immersed in the warm waters, the last days preceding their suicide missions. Admission is free and you will have to take off your shoes and use suitable flip-flops (see attached photo). The Museum is closed on Mondays. The entrance is free. Seeing is believing. Wombat05

  • quite interesting museum surrounded by peaceful atmostphere
  • There aren't too many things in Beitou for tourists to see. That's okay since the hot springs take center stage here. The museum is a nice introduction to hot spring culture in Taiwan and it's worth a visit since all you have to spend is time (i.e. it's Free!). It's also a beautiful old building and makes for a nice contrast with the modern public library also found in the same park.
  • Old historic building. Cool to check out for like 15-20 minutes. You get a historical perspective of the area.
  • It was interesting to go here to learn the history of the place
  • Good and relaxing
