2/28 Peace Park, Taipei

3.9
#11 of 53 in Parks in Taipei
The first European-style park in Taiwan, built in 1908, 2/28 Peace Park today represents a refuge from the city. Walk along the pathways and see old trees, a pond, and pavilions. The park also showcases some shrines and relics and holds two of Taiwan's most important museums. Part of the peace and quiet comes from the fact that the park stands as a memorial to a massacre from 1947. A monument in the park commemorates the event. • It is easy to find a park near the Taipei metropolitan area, which is not very large, with a 228-century library, where you can get a look at 228 of history. It's also a nice time to walk.

  • It was very good. I like that every day in the Park. Calm and peaceful. Pictures look good.

  • MRT "one large clinic" station No.1 exit, and there was another 228 Peace Park. Taipei New Park marks made in Japan rule age became a center of 2.28 events, this place to place of recreation and relaxation for citizens is maintained. There is a pavilion on the banks of the pond, has been used to explore the rest.

  • Love this place. Lots of trees, art deco monuments and pagodas. It's big enough and a great place to stop and sit down. I visited this park many times and am always impressed. Lots of friendly squirrels.
  • This is a great place to walk around and there is a lot of shades due to the trees. The playground is nice but it's more for kids under 5, although there is a big slide for bigger kids. There are a lot of things to see such as the fish pond, the pagoda, among other things. There are a lot of history and good reads/displays. The name 228 is a relatively new name change due to politics, unfortunately.
  • Good place to get away from the office for awhile. Walk around, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, sit on a bench, and watch the squirrels. Lots of people at lunchtime, but that's OK.
  • Very nice, tranquil park. I wouldn't make it a destination unless you're already in the area, but really nice with some meaningful art. Sometimes there are peaceful protests happening there as well.
  • The simplicity, darkness and abstract nature of the monument is a thought provoking monument to that terrible massacare. The accompanying musieum is a very honest and sobering reflection on the darkest moment in Taiwan's history. It is a model of critical self-reflective national history that can accept the misdeeds of the past and grow from it.
