2/28 Peace Park, Taipei

4.0
#8 of 54 in Parks in Taipei
Landmark Nature / Park
The first European-style park in Taiwan, built in 1908, 2/28 Peace Park today represents a refuge from the city. Walk along the pathways and see old trees, a pond, and pavilions. The park also showcases some shrines and relics and holds two of Taiwan's most important museums. Part of the peace and quiet comes from the fact that the park stands as a memorial to a massacre from 1947. A monument in the park commemorates the event. Plan your visit to 2/28 Peace Park and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Taipei travel itinerary planner.

  • Nice gardens with a pond full of fish and turtles, squirrels and birds in the trees and the memorial in the centre. A bit of peace and quiet in a busy area  more »
  • Lovely walk to this park with young kids. Lots to see and space to run. Birds, fish, squirrels... And playground too.  more »
  • The story of the Peace garden is so hard to take. To think that so many people lost their lives on that spot. It is hard to think of it as a Peace garden. But, as we were leaving we spotted a group of...  more »

  • Beautiful small natural oasis in the city. Plenty of buskers and locals and tourists and birds wandering around the park leisurely. Worth a visit if you're in the area!
  • Neat park commemorating the anti-government protests that started on 2/28/1947, which led to a violent government response and the death of thousands. The centerpiece of the park is a monument dedicated to the victims. It’s fairly small with some notable attractions, including Chinese pagodas and the National Taiwan Museum. The 2/28 Memorial Museum is on a nearby location, about 1.5 kilometers south of the park.
  • A very small park but not bad for an evening walk. But do mind some creepy statues over the pavilion.
  • Located in Zhongzheng, this 228 Peace Park (二二八和平公園) is the oldest park in Taipei. In order to remember the innocent people sacrificed during the civil resistance (towards the corruption in government), a monument was set up in the park. Known as Taipei Park at first, it changed name to New Park in the past. Subsequently, in 1996, it was renamed to 228 Memorial Peace Park in the hope that people will learn from its painful historic lesson.I took the 捷运 to visit the place.
  • The oldest publuc park in Taipei. A good kid play ground offered. Some beautiful flowers on the old trees, depending on the season. Good music performance from the amateur all year.
