#4 of 15 in Museums in Tainan
Specialty Museum Museum
The century-old building of Sio House (Salt Museum) offers visitors a bit of cultural history and some cleverly designed salt-based exhibits and activities. Once used for storage, selling, and inspection of salt, the site now provides a spot to get some souvenirs for yourself or your loved ones. It displays salt in 365 different colors, one for each day of the year, with a short blessing tagged on it. Don't miss the wishing tree, where couples write down their blessings and tie them to it. If you're traveling with kids, check out the sandpit near the car park. Put Sio House (Salt Museum) on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Tainan vacation builder.

  • Do not sell what I expected because I had heard famous for salt and buy tasty local salt, but, disappointed. Was selling their birth salt is not interested. Will not be a buy, but tasting me feeding homemade tofu and sell the Bittern. Sunset is a beautiful place, but the evening was not without relation. Got in free, but anyway was a disappointment.

  • An interesting place in the countryside, where you learn about different types of salt and the way the people processed their salt. Salts of different colors representing one's birthdate and astrology can be bought. Welcoming and friendly staff.

Where to stay in Tainan

The long established city of Tainan offers plentiful accommodations for the range of visitors it receives each year. Primarily located to the west of the main train station, hotels range from the luxurious to the basic, and everywhere in between. Overlooking green areas or the canals, the most glamorous among the options here come in old and new buildings, while the more budget-friendly--including youth hostels, guesthouses, and simple hotels--occupy side streets close to the main transport hubs and historic buildings.
