Shennong Street, Tainan

3.6
#6 of 96 in Sightseeing in Tainan
Historic Walking Area Tourist Spot
Take in the trendy atmosphere of Shennong Street. One of the best-preserved streets in the city, it commemorates a great emperor whom people revered as a deity after his death. Though only around 100 m (324 ft) long, the strip features many shops selling antiques, handmade crafts, and jewelry, as well as restaurants and bars. Taste traditional Taiwanese cuisine, or take a walk to the temple at the end, dedicated to the emperor. Consider visiting at night, when the street really comes alive. • This is an historic area of Tainan with many well-preserved old houses - think large wooden beams, high ceiling and wooden windows! Since the city government zoned the area, it became pedestrian friendly with many hidden gems! Discover artisan craft stores, vintage cafes and great restaurants!
  • One of the rare preserved street of Tainan, a little hipsterized but here it is a good thing as it means cute shops and good food and respectful of the space around
  • Beautiful mix of old and new shophouses with games and all sorts of funky goods! Many uniquely-designed merchandise available.
  • Nice old alley call Sheng nong street. A mixture of old and new all captured in this 300m long alley. Some of the treasures lies inside the shop where the design and decor give a refreshing idea to design.

Primarily located to the west of the main train station, hotels range from the luxurious to the basic, and everywhere in between.
