Da Tian Hou Gong, Tainan

(3.8/5 based on 65+ reviews on the web)
See the place where royal dynasties once resided at Da Tian Hou Gong. Built in the 17th century, the temple now functions as a place of worship dedicated to the goddess Matsu, but a long time ago it served as a palace for kings and emperors. Learn about their days spent living here and hear gruesome tales, such as the story of the five concubines who hanged themselves in the main hall. Check out the etchings of mythical beings, found all around the building, altars, statues, and other decorations that exist both inside and out of the temple. Use our Tainan vacation trip planner to arrange your visit to Da Tian Hou Gong and other attractions in Tainan.

  • It's the Grand Matsu/Mazu Temple, also known as the Great Queen of Heaven Temple. Very close to Chihkan Tower, is a must-see as one of the most renowned temples in the city. Served as the Palace of the last King of the dynasty Ming and was later reconstructed by the Government as a temple to honor the great goddess of the sky (Mother Mazu). The great statue of the goddess has more than 300 years of antiquity; Matsu/Mazu is also the most worshipped deity of the country, and is also the goddess of the sea, patron saint of fishermen. At the rear of the temple is a small shrine dedicated to the parents of Mazu, which was once the bedroom of the King. Driving directions: As we started the commentary about the Confucius Temple, a cultural tour of the Centre can be on foot. For example, you can get here foot from Chihkan Tower in about 3 minutes. If necessary, any of the tour buses (88 or 99) until the stop of Chengkung Tower Bus Stop. FREE ENTRANCE.
