Chihkan Tower (Fort Provintia), Tainan
(3.5/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Built in 1653, Chihkan Tower (Fort Provintia) represents a Dutch outpost that has been preserved since the days of colonization. This attraction was named by the Dutch after a nearby indigenous village, which is now called Tainan. Though this site was surrendered to the Koxinga and then demolished by an earthquake in the 1800s, it has since been rebuilt. This new structure served at the capital of the island and later opened to the public for tours. Take note of the site's architectural value as well as its library. • Place very representative for the people of Tainan, represents the strong Dutch sighting on the shores of that sea that once came from there. After the surrender of the Dutch official in charge at the Chinese General who took possession of it (the scene is depicted in bronze statues in the garden of entry), the structure was partially destroyed and altered according to the canons. Nice to see, but don't expect much. More historical and architectural interest

  • The tower cost $NT50 entry per person. It was really nice to walk up the old towers and look at displays of the restoration. The English card we were given with our ticket explained most exhibits.
  • Like most of the reviews most of the info is not in English as you would expect. It only cost 50 TWD and I spent 40 minutes or so wandering around. It's worth a visit to appreciate the history but don...  more »
