Chihkan Tower, Tainan

3.9
#2 of 54 in Historic Sites in Tainan
Built in 1653, Chihkan Tower represents a Dutch outpost that has been preserved since the days of colonization. This attraction was named by the Dutch after a nearby indigenous village, which is now called Tainan. Though this site was surrendered to the Koxinga and then demolished by an earthquake in the 1800s, it has since been rebuilt. This new structure served at the capital of the island and later opened to the public for tours. Take note of the site's architectural value as well as its library. Castle Netherlands who made it is. Chinese-style buildings were built on that basis. You can compare old brick and new bricks, so part of the Foundation. Fortunately for coming exam takers and work on building the God of learning, so is recommended. Equipped with restrooms and gift shop.

Beyond the historical significance of the site, the Chihkan Towers are a complete tourist trap. The two "towers" are just three story buildings, although they have been well restored and maintained. The place is a regular stop of Mainland tourists so expect waves of photo snappers inundating the site. IMO, the best feature were the old banyan trees providing respite from the Tainan heat.

It's a famous tourist spot, with NT50 entrance fee. Very authentic and historical building, interesting story throw back to 100 years ago. Pretty cool place to visit and take some nice photos here :)

A popular tourist spot, the tower isn't really much to see, but the grounds are pretty. The entrance fee is $50 for adults, and you can buy koi food to feed the fish as well. There are a lot! The history it's work learning about, as it was a Dutch Tower and there is enough in English to satisfy history buffs.

It's a nice place full of history, in the heart of Tainan. It's very well maintained and signposted for tourists. It's a Dutch fort that was conquered by a Chinese general. One gets an appreciation of the whole history of Taiwan by visiting the fort. It can get a bit crowded, though.
