Chihkan Tower, Tainan

(600+ reviews on the web)
Architectural Building
Built in 1653, Chihkan Tower represents a Dutch outpost that has been preserved since the days of colonization. This attraction was named by the Dutch after a nearby indigenous village, which is now called Tainan. Though this site was surrendered to the Koxinga and then demolished by an earthquake in the 1800s, it has since been rebuilt. This new structure served at the capital of the island and later opened to the public for tours. Take note of the site's architectural value as well as its library. • Located in a small park, these two pavilions were well restored. The remains of Fort Provintia are modest (a few sections of the wall) but all worth a visit.

  • First visited on the tour was disappointing in a short time, so this time I called and alone. See history of looking at explanations for this place. In Tainan also comes out different impression is many people in famous tourist spots, such as Tainan and history here know in advance.

  • A popular tourist spot, the tower isn't really much to see, but the grounds are pretty. The entrance fee is $50 for adults, and you can buy koi food to feed the fish as well. There are a lot! The history it's work learning about, as it was a Dutch Tower and there is enough in English to satisfy history buffs.
  • It's a nice place full of history, in the heart of Tainan. It's very well maintained and signposted for tourists. It's a Dutch fort that was conquered by a Chinese general. One gets an appreciation of the whole history of Taiwan by visiting the fort. It can get a bit crowded, though.
  • Lovely place. Most of the descriptions are in Chinese so maybe read up on the history before you go. It's a great place to curl up to a book in the garden if you're not tight on time. The night we went there was a jazz performance which was awesome. The garden is well kept.
  • Historical building in Tainan as a port by the Dutch. Well maintained if you are a history lover, else it's another old building with stories behind it.
  • Chicken tower takes about 30 minutes to see. It was one of few rare places in Taiwan where you have to pay to enter a historical site. It would be cool if they continued the excavation into the crib of the main tower that the Spanish originally built.
