Anping Fort (Anping gubao), Tainan
(3.9/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Brush up on your local history with an excursion to Anping Fort (Anping gubao), a 17th-century fort constructed by the Dutch East India Company. Developed over a 10-year period between 1624 and 1634, the fort became a central hub for trade in East Asia throughout Dutch and Japanese occupations of Tainan. Follow well-kept paths to some of the few surviving remnants of the original fort, including the red brick city walls and oyster kiln. Much of the site is newly built, housing a collection of museums for you to wander through, learning the fort’s extensive history. Climb the steps of the observation tower for some of the town’s best views, and make the most of the predominantly English displays. Arrange your visit to Anping Fort (Anping gubao) and discover more family-friendly attractions in Tainan using our Tainan trip itinerary maker.

  • It took about 30 minutes bicycles from the city. Admission is 50 original turns South Netherlands, Qing, Japan and rulers can glimpse of history were at the mercy of touch. There were a lot of tourists in China and Taiwan because it was Sunday. Lots of stores was is buzzing around.

  • Definitely worth the trip. It's absolutely beautiful. They introduced English speaking tour guides as off July 2016. We had the pleasure of having Joseph as our guide. Informative, passionate and an around great guy. So much to do Ian's around this area.
  • Don't listen to Dharmashloka's review. There is plenty to see. Chi Mei museum donated a few pieces to the exhibition hall and the dynamic history of the dutch, japanese and Chinese reigns are explained quite well. Not to be missed in Tainan.
  • Great buildings and tower! 50nt admission. ice cream and drinks available. Also Souvenirs available, adjacent to Anping market area for additional shopping.
  • Old town of Tainan. Around the Fort you have the street market. Inside you can practise chinese writing
  • Built by the Dutch VOC, slightly larger than the Chikan Towers.
