PaoChueh Temple, Taichung

3.1
#1 of 9 in Historic Sites in Taichung
Religious Site Tourist Spot
Built in 1927, PaoChueh Temple attracts visitors with its giant Buddha, which stands seven stories tall in tribute to the temple's resident deity, Gautama Buddha. While the rest of the temple is relatively small, the massive statue makes for great photography opportunities. However, you can also seek out some of the smaller delights, like the fish pond, the garden, and the smaller Japanese temple nearby. This blend of Taiwanese and Japanese Buddhism signifies the reconciliation and healing that occurred between the two cultures after World War II. Where to stay in Taichung

Look at the Central District for the main accommodations in Taichung. This area contains the majority of the city's high-rise chain hotels, both luxurious and standard, along with a few simple guesthouses, family-run boutique establishments, and hostels. Xitun District features a number of eco-friendly hotels, with the emphasis very much of green grounds, spa relaxation, and restaurants with diverse, seasonal menus. Guesthouses and apartment rentals can be found in the more residential districts encircling the city center.
