Shifen Old Street, Pingxi

4.2
Stroll, shop, and take photos of the famous lanterns at Shifen Old Street, one of the most popular stops along the Pingxi railroad line. This picturesque attraction has a number of souvenir shops and eateries to entertain you during your visit. Though it was initially built to transport coal, this train stop and historical site is now known for its sky lanterns. Here you may be inspired to paint a wish and then release your lantern into the air with hopes that the wish will come true. There are also a number of other attractions within walking distance, including a well-known waterfall. Plan my day in New Taipei using traveler tips and tourist information provided by Inspirock.

  • The lantern-raised shop lined up on the track, the light of the store is dazzling as the sun falls. Choose the color of the lantern and write your wish in ink. It is one up to the group of four people because it spends four faces. Write your wish quietly. The person of the shop takes the photograph with the smartphone when i finish writing. In addition, the lantern is spread out, the oil paper which ignited like a balloon is put in, and the place where it is made to hold is also pachiri. When you speak your hand to the signal, the lantern goes up straight, not softly. The wish seemed to be sucked into the night sky as it is, and it became inexhausti. The person in the shop also took the animation. The reality is that anything that flew into the sky using fire will surely come back to the ground. When I was a child, i was able to wash the bon boat and lantern sink that i washed into the river in the sea. I was able to see a scene that I will never forget while thanking the local people in Taiwan.

  • It's situated on an old but active train track and there are a number of vendors selling lanterns which you light and set it off. You choose the lantern based on the wish you want to make. :) We had good coffee at a nearby stall see picture to see which stall. Pretty good variety.
  • The only place in Taiwan that allows you to release Sky Lantern! If it’s the first time visiting Taiwan, good to drop by this place and take a look at the culture. Join in to doodle on the lantern and send your well wishes to a far far place. Want to know where’s the debris of the lantern? It’s known that after few minutes of floating in the air, it will end up in the forest. Someone will pick up those frames, recycle it and sell it to the retailers. The railway track is working and you will get to see train passing by. Do keep a look out! Nothing much to shop but overall, it’s a good place to explore.
  • This is a very popular railroad in Taiwan and many tourists visit this place. You can fly a lantern with written personal messages. But be careful because an actual train passes by once in awhile. Also I love the chicken stuffed with rice that is sold in the place.
  • Beautiful place! Love the fact that the train track is still being used as they let people walk through it and even set the sky lanterns. The train track is a really nice photo taking place and some of the souvenir shops around do sell some interesting things. However a lot of the shops are selling similar if not the same things. We only spent about an hour here which I find is enough unless you love to explore all the souvenir shops. Definitely a place to visit on your trip to Taiwan!
  • Small bustling town despite the rain. Though streets are narrow but love the way where we can still walk on the railway tracks to release the lantern with wishes or blessing written on it. Small shops with friendly and courteous shop staff getting tourist or people to buy from their place. Lantern could be in single/ 1 colour and up to 8 😂 with each colour for different type of wish/blessings; career, love, family, health etc. Some popular and nice food stalls around too (long queue despite rain too)
