Cat Village Houtong, New Taipei

3.7
Built on the ruins of a deserted mining town thanks to the efforts of a team of volunteer workers, Cat Village Houtong now serves as a mini cat city, visited by many cat lovers. As the idea developed over the years, villagers started to construct cat decorations, sculptures, and even a bridge with a catwalk for the cats to come and greet you at the train station. Admire cat paintings, murals, and of course hundreds of real-life cats waiting to be petted. Find refreshments in the numerous cafes and shop for cat souvenirs, then relax by the pristine green river, accessible by a staircase. Put Cat Village Houtong into our New Taipei vacation builder site to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in New Taipei.

  • People who don't like cats, the advice is not to go because the whole village is a cat, and it sounds like a lot of people are grabbing this, every cat has a name, and some of them are long, but still someone can recognize what name it is called.

  • I'm not sure what I was expecting - I heard it was a cat village and being a HUGE cat person I leapt at the chance to go. I guess in my mind I expected it to be SWARMING with cats and it to be bigger ...  more »
  • Not too cute, too many cats, friendly customers, if you do not want to buy snacks with the customer, can be prepared to add vegetables to the cat, the weather is good and then out of the more appropriate Oh!

  • a very peaceful and quiet village where you can play with tons of cute cats. while you can purchase cat food in the village, they don't seem very good since the cats don't eat it at all. You should buy better ones from supermarket before you go to the village if you want to feed cats there. There are still people living in the village so be respectful and don't be too loud. There is a few good restaurants near the train station (mostly noodles soup or street food) so you can consider having lunch there.
  • Heaven! Heart eyed cat emoji! Cats! It's not a zoo, there's no amusement park, no fancy shops, but something better. Cats! Don't expect too much, if you're not into cats or meeting locals, this really isn't your place. However, if you like both, check this out. You can take a North bound TRA regional train 區前 from Taipei, and pay with EasyCard. You can buy food there, it's of course overpriced but hey the locals live on it. You can also pet the cats and play with them, unless it's prohibited. Don't feed them people food. It is also recommended against bringing your dog here. The cats all have people and they are very well kept. Really good place for children, as long as they don't expect to be going to a zoo. And did I mention, there's cats???
  • Looks very vintage and cool. The shops sell amazing souvenir. You just dont want to miss it. the cat charms and every is just amazing. You cant get it back in Taipei. There are 2 actovities here: • Buy souvenir and Cafe. The cafe shop you should aim for is Empress. They have 4 cute cats you an play with and the place is cozy and really cute.
  • The place has good scenery, but unfortunately the cats are even not as many as in the cat cafe.
  • Fun place, old mining village here too in houtong , train ride inside abandoned mine available for $150twd
