Rainbow Village Taichung, Nantun

3.7
Rainbow Village Taichung bursts with surreal artwork painted onto the sides of its buildings. Once a part of a network of inexpensive homes given to veterans of World War II and the Chinese Civil War, the village now contains rejuvenated structures painted by Huang Yung-fu Huang, a local artist who covered the buildings in colorful depictions of Chinese characters. Though you don't need to pay an entry fee, you can always donate, or alternatively purchase a souvenir from the gift shop, themed after the artwork in the village. • It is not easy to get there, but it is close to Taichung Station and is about 10 minutes by bus. It is called a village, but it is a corner of the town. In Japanese houses, about 10 houses are painted colorfully. It takes about 10 minutes if it sees quickly, and it takes a picture and it is about 40 minutes even if i take a picture and it wasabi. It's very colorful and has a lot of original characters, so it's good for photography. It is a little tired to have a lot of memorabilia. Our house was an inn near The Night Market, so we stopped by a taxi and waited for them. It was raining for 400 yuan to the vicinity of The Aiyanight Market with five people, and i think it was good that it was a little detour. (Coin lockers at Takatetsu Daichung Station are expensive when you put up a suitcase.) )

  • The rainbow village originated from a big-name Uncle in the village, because the color is rich, so that the whole village live up, with the increase of people, and exempt from the demolition of life, and even the government also special protection, worthy of the visit. Rainbow Bob is more than 90 years old, the body is not bad.

  • Tiny clusters of beautifully painted house 😍 Lively colors which is pleasing to the eyes. The paintings woken up the kid in me! Its playful and vibrant which is nice. Looking through the paintings, I noticed most of it are depictions of monsters in the legends (or so I thought), also there are nice messages from the painter or random thoughts also painted there. A lot of people visit the place so it is a bit hard to take great photos and wait for your turn. But the over all experience is great! One more thing, this is a small village preserved and surrounded now by modern society, tall buildings, establishments and schools. The village is open from 8:00 to 18:00 it is adviseable not to go there in the evening, lots of mosquitoes
  • This place is a small mini-village of old buildings that were salvaged and painted by one man. In Taichung, it is a bit of a landmark and the man is a mini-celebrity. He is usually at the village willing to take a picture with visitors. The art is pretty cool, very positive vibe. There are a couple food vendors and places to buy souvenirs in the village as well. Take your time to look around and snap a few pics of the designs on the buildings. There is also some written information about the village, it’s origin, and how it came to be. It’s a little hard to get to. You will need to Uber or motorbike your way there. There may be buses, but that can be a bit too confusing if you don’t speak Chinese. With not a whole lot to do in Taichung, it’s worth a quick stop if you’re nearby. It’s totally free as well. The guy seems to support the village out of the kindness of his heart and not for the money. Cool stop if nearby, but not an absolute must see. Can quickly see in maybe 15 minutes or browse for longer.
  • It's a perfect photo op for many. This tiny cluster of houses are beautifully painted and is open up until night time. I did not see much to do around the area but I did not really explore much so I could be wrong. If you're lucky you might see the artist himself in action.
  • This is a very small group of houses painted with brightly colored paints in various patterns and characters. It also sparked an inner child in me with all its psychedelic like ambiance. 😉
  • Really nice place, very easy to get to from the train station ( in Xinwuri). A nice little addition is that the author of all the artwork in the village is there too, so you can take a photo or talk to him (provided you speak Mandarin). They also make a nice coffee on-site, quite cheap, and you get a cool plastic cup with it, painted similarly to the village. Not much food options in the are though, so come prepared. The bus to get there is free, which is great.
