Learn about the Buddhist religion and enjoy the beauty of the architecture at Xuanzhuang Temple. Take a boat ride to cross the Sun Moon lake, followed by a short climb to reach the holy site. Go inside through the entrance, guarded by two golden lions, and see ancient relics belonging to the famous monk Hsuan Tsang. When you leave the temple from the back side, you’ll see a couple of paths that lead into the forest, where you can take a walk in the pristine nature. Where to stay in Nantou County

As a base for explorations of the county, Nantou offers a wealth of accommodations for its many visitors, from the outdoorsy minded, to cultural adventurers and luxury-lovers. Take a look in the center of town to find a number of hotels of all types, along with some simple guesthouses. On the outskirts, particularly by the river to the north, sit a good selection of boutiques boasting views of the surrounding landscape. Many visitors to the county also get tempted by lakeside accommodations by Sun Moon Lake--arguably the main natural attraction of the county--to the south.

  • A pleasant park within the compound. Great vista of the lake. A relic exhibition on the 3rd floor of the temple. We were there before 11am and there wasnt any tourist at all.
  • Nice place to take photo in the morning. Try the Ah Po tea leaf eggs. Nicer than most out there.
  • A lot of tourist, hard to see the scenery
  • Went up to the temple to take pictures. Great spot for taking the sun moon lake.
  • We were in the foggy day, everything was nice and romantic ^^
