Magong

3.4
Landmarks · Beaches · Sacred & Religious Sites
Most visitors take a trip to Magong to see Penghu's iconic landmark, the famed Tianhou Gong Mazu temple, honoring the Chinese sea goddess and dating back to the 16th century. A tour of Magong leads visitors through charming neighborhoods dotted with old houses transformed into shops or restaurants--ideal for exploration on foot. Don't limit yourself to the main road that turns to a pedestrian street for dining and shopping after dark, but wander around the windy back alleys and narrow streets taking in the feeling of this old city. Plan your vacation with our Taiwan road trip tool and discover the best things to do in Magong.

Where to stay in Magong

Thanks to its favorable location and proximity to the main airport and ferry terminal, Magong serves as a home base for most foreign visitors to Penghu. In addition to a number of large hotels, many locals make a living running guesthouses and bed and breakfasts. Since most of these places, hotels included, don't have English websites, booking them can be a challenge, unless you know someone who speaks Chinese.
