Xiziwan, Kaohsiung

3.5
#5 of 26 in Parks in Kaohsiung
Xiziwan boasts a picturesque beach, a functioning harbor, and historical buildings to explore and observe. Situated west of Kaohsiung City, and bordered by lush verdant hillsides, the town houses the Sun Yat-sen University campus, as well as the Lingsing Temple and the British embassy, perched high on the hilltop (panoramic views of the town and surrounding area can be enjoyed here). During the hotter months the black-sand beach, which sits right on the edge of the campus, transforms into a summer haven, with revelers playing volleyball, swimming in the coral-furnished waters, and bathing on sunloungers. Look out for bicycle hire stalls, which offer a good way to explore the campus and seaside neighborhoods, and consider heading to the beach before nightfall to witness a renowned ocean sunset. Put Xiziwan into our Kaohsiung day trip tool and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • I went to taste the atmosphere of the port city Kaohsiung, but unfortunately the drizzly weather was. Plain is the town centre, only this area has ups and downs, has become the terrain of the port.

  • Scenery is also very pleasant, right next to the campus of the National Sun Yat-Sen, to the seaside you can still see a few ships, and finally we went to the British Consulate, a small Western-style building, where you can still see Kaohsiung's landscape, but also very well.

Where to stay in Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung caters to a range of budgets and styles in the accommodations it provides for its guests. To keep things simple and easy, take a look at the options close to Formosa Boulevard, the station where the two metro lines intersect. To the north lies the main train station, and the area has been dotted with high-rise hotels, both standard and luxurious. Backpacker-friendly hostels are never too far away in this district, while a number of traditional guesthouses can be found in the surrounding residential areas. Atmospheric, and usually budget-friendly, they provide a good option to for those wanting a side of the city other than the ultra-modern one of the central area.
