The National Stadium , formerly known as the World Games Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Zuoying District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is currently the largest stadium in Taiwan in terms of capacity.Completed in 2009, it is used mostly for football matches and it hosted the main events for the 2009 World Games. The stadium has a capacity of 55,000 people. Since the conclusion of the games, the stadium has been used for some Taiwanese football team matches. The stadium, designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, makes use of solar energy to provide its power needs. The stadium's semi spiral-shaped, like a dragon, is the first stadium in the world to provide power using solar power technology. The solar panels covering the vast external face of the stadium are able to generate most of the power required for its own operation, as well as additional power that can be saved.TransportationThe stadium is accessible within walking distance West from World Games Station of the Kaohsiung MRT.

  • Good place to see the concert!! I did a few concerts here in May, and the Sound field works fine (I think it's better than Peach Park), and it's big enough to have a good ride.

  • Nice design and eco-friendly. All those conduits on the roof are not just for looks, they hide all the cables, wires, etc for the solar panels on top.
  • 每年都有“高雄國際馬拉松”活動。 Kaohsiung, the most friendly city in Taiwan, holds International Marathon in February every year. Come ! Have fun with us.
  • Came here to watch concert. Overall looks ok
  • This place is huge, very modern facilities, comfortable seating for a stadium. Great views no matter where you sit
  • Interesting design of arena. It is nice to take a walk around, and enjoy the architecture

Where to stay in Kaohsiung

Kaohsiung caters to a range of budgets and styles in the accommodations it provides for its guests. To keep things simple and easy, take a look at the options close to Formosa Boulevard, the station where the two metro lines intersect. To the north lies the main train station, and the area has been dotted with high-rise hotels, both standard and luxurious. Backpacker-friendly hostels are never too far away in this district, while a number of traditional guesthouses can be found in the surrounding residential areas. Atmospheric, and usually budget-friendly, they provide a good option to for those wanting a side of the city other than the ultra-modern one of the central area.
