3.5/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web
Discover the history of the country through the exhibits of Kaohsiung Museums of History. Changing every few months, these exhibits showcase the events that took place during and after the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. The memorial to the 228 Incident represents the most visited part of the museum, dedicated to an anti-government uprising that occurred in 1947. Once a government building, the lime-green structure also includes a children's educational area. On your way out, browse through the gift shop.
  • Place the 228 incident is symbol of anti-Japanese movement at City Hall after the City Hall was built during Japan colonial period as a museum. All exhibits were 228 incident related. You can visit while you're walking because it is on the banks of the Love River.

  • Great place. Learned a lot about the history of the building and the events that occurred there.
  • Worth visiting place, the museum build itself is nice.
  • Ideology behind is not neutral for public funded museum
  • Before World War II and the Kaohsiung history exhibits include the outline of the suffrage movement in Taiwan's history, and 228 incident. Wonder what this place was one of the scene of the massacre. It is interesting history of people busy though it is suppressed in the voting rights acquired before World War II. I think more for the 228 Memorial Park in Taipei.

A museum with 3 to 4 small exhibitions, a thorough tour could be completed within 1-2 hours, no entry fee is required. Only a few information is translated into English (~30-40%).
