Cihou Lighthouse, Kaohsiung
Categories: Lighthouses, Tourist Spots
The Baroque-style Cihou Lighthouse affords panoramic views of the Port of Kaohsiung, from high on Chihou Mountain. The original structure was built in 1883 using Chinese-style red brick, but was renovated and rebuilt during the Japanese occupation, creating the structure you see today. The lighthouse was made a Class 3 Building of Historical Interest in 1985, and soon after was opened to the public, with the tower itself being accessible. Climb to the top of the lighthouse, where the new level-four rotary lens light is housed, and take in the wide-ranging views of the city and the ocean.
