Ai He (Love River), Kaohsiung

(3.8/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Occupying a special place in the hearts of locals, Ai He (Love River) plays an important role in the city's tourism, economy, and culture. Go on a solar-powered boat tour to observe the tidal river and enjoy the picturesque city scenery. You can also rent bikes from stands along the riverbank to explore the surrounding attractions, such as lively night markets and outdoor cafes with live music. The government has significantly improved the water quality over the past few years, but floodgates still must remain open during rainy season, which can send pollution into the river's lower stretch. • It is actually a very romantic place very beautifully lighted during night. The area is very fascinating especially during festivals.

  • Romantic place for couples. Also popular with tourist. Can get there by MRT City Council (Orange line). Take the exist No 2, then turn left at the gate, go about 500m, you'll see the bridge of Love River. You should stay on the left, there's a small wooden bridge leading to the riverside.
  • The Love River is a great place for boating during both day and night. Lots of cafes along the river. Great place for dating, or simply enjoying casual night life in a cafe. The Kaohsiung City government has done a great job of cleaning up the river. With clearer water, the Love River shores have become nice tourist destinations, esp. the east shore of the river.
  • Not a bad place to hang out. Reminds me a bit of The Bund in Shanghai with its promenade and boats. There's lots of little shops, lights and music along the way.
  • Highly recommended for runners (or couples)! The pavement along the river goes for miles and miles. I've done many 15 mile runs along this river, because it's the best place for a long run and is a nice break from the scooter filled streets. For people who want a relaxing walk, go to the downtown section of love river near fisherman's wharf and Pier-2 Art Park (another must see). Don't miss the Dragon Boat races around June on Love River during the Dragon Boat Festival! It's HOTT so bring plenty of water and an umbrella. But it's so worth it!
  • The area surrounding the river has a lot to offer. Great area to have a drink and just relax. Boat rides are also available. A must visit when in the area.
