Where to stay in Hsinchu County

Numerous townships across Hsinchu County have accommodations, including some small hotels, welcoming guesthouses, and backpacker-friendly hostels. Staying in one of the townships allows for easy access to the mountains and other wild sites for which the county is perhaps best known. Neighboring Hsinchu City (technically another county) has the largest number of accommodations in the area, and tends to be where visitors pitch up in order to explore the mountains around the county. With good onward travel links, Hsinchu City makes for a good base of explorations.

  • It's a great place where nature hides deep in the mountain. Therefore, it takes up to 2-3hrs drive from the highway. Best suggestion, live there! live there! If you went with a group of friends, even ...  more »

  • It's an absolutely beautiful place. Difficult to get to, especially if driving, but worthwhile. If you're going by a motorcycle (125 cc. is enough, BTW), be sure to tank up to the brim at the foot of the mountain in Jianshi. You might buy an extra liter of fuel for safety. Be careful on the road and leave before noon to get there early. The trail to big trees (巨木) is a long but easy one—10 km total should take you a few hours. Again, it's good to go there before noon. A lot of people enter the trail early in the morning so you may choose to go about 10:00. There's another trail to a waterfall, which is shorter but far more difficult. Might be good to avoid it in rainy weather. I'd recommend 3 days 2 nights, with he last day spent in Cinsbu Village (鎮西堡) on the other side of the valley.
  • A good place for a back country trip. Though it's not as countryside as I thought.
  • Breathtaking. Worth the long drive to get away from the city.
  • Beautiful place for a relaxing walk to the top to view the majestic cedar trees. Cool clean air
  • Nice but too many busses full of people.
