  • Nicely built and protected area. The landscape is beautiful and has some thing for everyone. You can choose to walk or take the shuttle bus / train.
  • Must go if you're in Chiayi. Beautiful landscapes. This place is really a park with well developed trails, cherry blossoms (depending on the season), and old school trains. The forest line heading to here is quite crowded so you can take a bus as an alternative instead.
  • Getting to Alishan on public transportation is a major hassle if you don't speak Mandarin, and, I hazard, probably also if you do. Unreliable information and poor signage conspire against you. Once there, you are sharing Alishan with thousands of tourists, occasionally literally walk in line in the forest behind congested foot traffic ahead. When you need to return home and realize one single bus at 17:10 had been provided for the multitudes, booked full hours earlier, that's when you come crawling back to those private entrepreneur drivers you avoided in the morning, and pay an arm and a leg to get home. Alishan is simply not worth it - it's a tourist trap, unashamedly so, with little in the way of actual nature hikes, barring the trail up to Taoshan.
  • Very nice and natural environment to enjoy lifestyle and taking pictures with flora. Such amazing old school train service but recommend more number of transit for the customer.
  • Good sight seeing facilities and scenics. Restaurants all local style. Hotels too old. Restaurants need international franchises and management.
