Yangmingshan National Park, Beitou

4.3
Centered around Qixing Mountain, Taiwan’s highest dormant volcano, Yangmingshan National Park, features 13 hot springs and several scenic trails easily accessible from central Taipei by frequent buses. Smoking fumaroles, Taiwan blue magpies, and rhododendrons growing from andesite rocks stand out as the national park's trademark sights. Enjoy a stroll around Dream Lake and visit Grass Mountain Chateau, Chan Kai-shek’s summer residence. You can see a staggering 1,360 species of plants as you wander around the park's rolling grass hills, which were created after the government burnt forests to prevent thieves from stealing rich sulfur deposits. Covering 114.5 sq km (44.2 sq mi), the area serves as a popular weekend and holiday outing spot. • We rented a car to go there and luckily, we were able to visit before the start of long weekend. Our driver told us that during holidays there will be traffic control so we may not be allowed to enter...  more »

  • Nice scenic mountain. Easy access via mass transport. I enjoy strolls along the several family friendly walking trails available at the bus depot.
  • Unless you are gamed for hiking otherwise don't waste your energy and time. When you are there take a shuttle bus (not mentioned in Google) to go around the mountain. Every time you board the bus it's NT15. There are about 9 stops around the mountain.
  • If you are a climbing lover, I suggest you must be here at once in your lifetime. I planned to be here because I would like to see the national park which is different in my hometown. I want to see a beautiful scenery, the mountains and tress, it's worth to be here. I've called Switzerland in Taiwan. At here, there are many choices for walking in the jungle, from the starter to the expertise. If you don't know how to start walking, please asking or contact the staffs; otherwise, you may be lose along the way. Please pay attention for this. Food and beverage are very necessary to be well-prepare because there's rarely find the convenient store. Starbuck lover don't worry, there's a store there. Also, the price is quite expensive, but reasonable because of the transportation. In overall, I love to visit here again next time.
  • A quite convenient and relaxing place to enjoy away from the busy life of Taipei city. The place is approachable by bus from various MRT stations. A number of hiking trails are available. The person interested in riding around mountain can enjoy unlimited bus rides in very less price. A number of hot spots are also there.
  • Great place to escape the city life of Taipei. A variety of different things to do for different ages and interests. Hard to find parking (especially during weekends) and the minibus is often crowded.
