Explore the markets, caravanserais, madrasas, hammams, and mosques at Old City, a World Heritage Site bearing traces of millennia of settlement. The 13th-century Mamluk citadel dominates the landscape, attesting to the Arab military prowess at the time. Meanwhile, a 12th-century mosque and 16th- and 17th-century structures evoke the city's heritage as a crossroads of civilizations, including Hittite, Greek, Roman, and Ottoman. Wander the streets and take it all in, then stop for a traditional meal at one of the cozy restaurants. Note some attractions may have limited opening hours, so plan ahead.
