Where to stay in Zurich

As the financial hub of the country, it shouldn't come as a surprise that staying in Zurich usually comes at a price. The city puts emphasis on its glamorous four- and five-star hotels and international chains that appeal to traveling professionals. There a handful of hostels and guesthouses for the budget-conscious traveler. When staying in Zurich, you'll find that the majority of the accommodation offerings are in close proximity to the city core, either on the left or right bank. The left bank is the glitzier of the two, with its grand restaurants, shops, and proximity to the banks and train station. The right side, as home to the Old Town, charms with its historical atmosphere. Here you'll find independently owned boutique hotels and some mid-range options. The city also sports several hotels geared toward wellness, with spas and saunas. These tend to be pricey too, but you're guaranteed a truly relaxing retreat.

  • From a tourist's point of view this has to be rated not only as out of the way--& therefore my guess is it's little-visited--it's a waste of time!. If you're interested in the recently marvellous rest...  more »

  • The beautifully restored, eccentric Villa offered for a relaxing stroll outside the hectic centre of Zurich; In addition to the relatively small area of the Museum the very beautiful park, near botanical gardens or the Lake area at the Zürihorn are to name a few. Too bad that the larger upper part only once a week in a tour can be visited, since used as a Office for homeland security activities; given the beauty of the rooms in this public House almost an insult to the visitors. What gives us this attitude? Does the cultural elite as previously the money elite? The cashier is signposted so minimalist that is unclear, where admission is paid; the lady behind the counter responded, because even arg unfriendly, as it already lost in the modest exhibition rooms on the ground floor. Small illustrative and playful exhibition on the theme of building culture in Switzerland for laymen; the temporary exhibition "shelter is not enough" in the basement is rather disappointing, since building in the care of asylum is stripped only.

  • Lovely find while walking up towards the botanic gardens. A group of cyclists appeared to have stayed overnight or visited early in the morning. I just really enjoyed walking the grounds and taking photos of the brilliant architecture.
  • To not miss in April (garden in flowers)
  • The Patumbah Park is a rather small, yet not so well known, and therefore never passed over. Many beautiful plants, E.g. different herbs and beautiful flowering Magnolia trees in April, later the rose trellis, etc chairs and benches at various locations invite to sit. The Park is clean and well maintained, but still retains his natural charisma with some large, old trees and the often native plants. The Pavilion is building something special and the Patumbah even impressive and exotic. Park and buildings were extensively renovated a few years ago and restored. The Park is open during the day. A quiet place and throughout the year worth a visit.
